The office chat

1075 Words
"WHuuuu, that was close. ThankGod I was just in time."Ava talks to herself as she closes on a distance to her office door. She calmly pushes the door, then slamms it behind her, the moment she stepped in. Exhaling and inhaling breathes of relief. Her hands still cleched to the door handle. She is glad, she got to the office before her annoying boss, despite her lateness. She flicks her hand bag to the desk as she says her usual short prayers before any other work routine. Patting her head gently, she pulls the seat to her ass. "Mmmmm. WHuuuu," she let out her breathe when she perceives the freshly brewed coffee, about to take a sip, her phone beeps. Just then, she realises that her data connection has been active since last night and she had slept off without turning it off. "Ugh! Why now? Who is this, that doesn't care about my sanity?" In curiosity, she picks up her phone and behold, a message from none other than Mr Xander, her boss. She hesitates for a moment before finally opening it. As she opens the chat to her surprise; Xander: How are you doing? intern!! With a smiling emoji. Waves of shock runs through her spine. Seeing the message, come from Mr Xander looked impossible. She wipes her face with her pocket towel, to be sure she isn"t still under the influence of the sleeping pills she had taken last night. Just then another message pops up while she's still starring at her phone. Xander: I'm sorry i judged you too fast.I shouldn't have said that. At this point, seeing the second message pop up, she quickly takes a sip and carefully looks again at her phone but the messages were still visible enough. At this point, she couldn't help but chat back. Susan: it's okay, I had already forgotten about that, sir. Xander : Really? But you don't sound like it. Susan: How? How am I supposed to sound? She asks, with beams of amusement all over her face as she continues typing; Xander: Eerrrmm, I don't know, but not this straight forward. Susan: You're my boss and that's how best it should be. Don't you think so? Xander: Mm-hmm, but kinda still feeling guilty though. Allow me make it up to you. Susan: Okay... But you know that isn't necessary at all, sir. Why would he want to make it up to me, for what, I just wrote, I forgave him and had forgotten about it already yesterday, what more does he want, She thought of every possible 'why.' Xander:How about dinner after work hours tonight? Please don't say no. Susan: Are you asking me to go on a date with you? Xander: is that what they call it? Everything looking like a dream in one of those Hollywood films she normally watched. She had never seen the CEO apologize to anyone for anything before, atleast, not any she can tell of, let alone ask her out to dinner. She feels a mix of emotions-shock, confusion, and even a small hint of excitement. She quickly types; Susan: Okay, it's a yes then. Just for tonight. Immediately, she turns off her data connection, not interested in any other further chats or favourlities from social media. Her head bangs slightly but never an obstruction to her feeling at the moment as beams of smiles surroundes her chin, blushing, just the moment she drops her phone. Today seems like the reverse of yesterday, she thought while attending to the piled up files on her desk, her legs tapping slightly on the floor. Lost in thought, thinking about her dinner date tonight, thinking of possible ways how not to mess this one up, atleast to make a good impression and correct what ever daft opinion he had about her. But just as she gets lost in thought, she notices something strange. Her coffee cup was already empty. "Mtcheww." She sighs and nods as she can't believe that she had been so engrossed in her thoughts and didn't even realize that her coffee had finished minutes ago. "Why did it finish so fast?" She murmurs to herself. Not like the EMPIRE company didn't have a coffee shop within, but something about the coffee down the street, tastes so different and unique everytime she bought it, and besides the coffee shop at the company was just newly built and she had already being fond of the coffee down the street even before she started working at the empire. Feeling embarrassed and flustered, Susan quickly gets up from her desk and heads to the break room to make another cup. Walking, she couldn't help but feel disappointed in herself. How could she have been so careless? She needed to be on her game tonight, and now she is worried that her lack of attention would ruin everything. She takes a few deep breaths as she fills her cup with a fresh coffee. She can't let her mistakes ruin her evening. She needs to focus on the present and make sure to be fully present and engaged in the dinner with her boss. Fleeting moments turned into minutes and minutes into hours. The hours passed in a blur for Susan as her work gets lessened but her mind keeps drifting back to the dinner with her CEO, imagining what it will be like and what they will talk about. Is she worth it? It's just a dinner right? one time dinner at that and nothing more, Xander thought, watching the wall clock that hung opposite him, counting down the few minutes left before he called it a day."WHuuuu." He breathes down, fixing other relevant things. For unknown reasons, he sees himself a little tensed about the whole dinner thing. Although one thing he knew for a true is that, he judged her too quick instead of an appreciation and he owes her an apology. Few minutes past work hours, he steps out of his office, walking out as elegant as always. "How do I look?" He asks Mr Dum. "You look good to go boss." "No...Not good to go home, I mean good to go for a dinner date." Mr Dum turns back and froze for a second, "Dinner date?!" He sounds surprised that for the first time, his boss is concerned about his dress sense for a dinner date not even an official work related meeting with clients.
