… I spun around, shining my phone light down the dark corridor where the footsteps were
coming from, the footsteps stopped and an unsettling silence fell over the whole place. Then, a
figure emerged from the shadows. Tessa's breath caught in her throat as the security guard's
imposing frame appeared, his eyes fixed intently on her. For a moment, they just stared at each
other, the only sound coming from the creaking of the old building.
'What are you doing here?' the guard asked gruffly, his hand resting on his belt.
startled Tessa searched for a backup story in her head and came up with a lie about the brothel's history, and to her surprise, the guard nodded
thoughtfully. 'Follow me,' he said, leading her through the winding halls to a side door she hadn't
noticed before. ‘Please leave the premises, it's not safe for a young lady to come to an
abandoned area alone at night.’ Tessa released a breath, she hadn't realized she had been
holding all this while, and thanked the guard before walking to her car.
On getting home, she confronted her dad. “Dad, what’s going on? I found these in an abandoned
brothel, documents tied to our company. Why are we doing business there?”
He looks at the documents and sighs deeply. “Tessa, I didn’t want to involve you in this, but you
deserve to know the truth. That brothel is now a warehouse, a secure location for some of our
high-value clients who prefer discretion. It’s not illegal, but it’s not something we advertise either.
These clients operate in industries where privacy is paramount.”
“Are any of them... involved in illegal activities?” I ask, fearing the worst.
“No,” he says firmly. “I would never knowingly do business with criminals. These clients have
legitimate businesses, but they value their privacy. That’s all.”
I want to believe him, but doubts linger. “Then why all the secrecy? Why not just be open about
it?”
“Because, Tessa, in our line of work, not everything is black and white. Sometimes, we have to operate in
gray areas to stay ahead. But I promise you, everything we do is within the bounds of the law.”
His words somewhat reassure me, but I know that rumors are powerful and can easily spiral out of control.
Over the next few weeks, the rumors reduced, I didn't hear anything alarming or shady within or outside LAURIX TECHNOLOGIES.

I was in my room, staring at my phone. Joe and I had been texting nonstop since our first
meeting. His messages were always filled with humor, intelligence, and an undeniable charm
that made my heart flutter. We were going on our first official date tonight, and I was a bundle of
nerves.
“Tessa, are you ready?” Mom called from downstairs.
“Almost!” I replied, taking one last look in the mirror. I smoothed down my dress, took a deep
breath, and headed downstairs.
When I opened the front door, Joe was there, looking as handsome as ever in a crisp shirt and
tailored pants. He smiled when he saw me, his eyes lighting up.
“Wow, Tessa, you look amazing,” he said, his voice filled with genuine admiration.
“Thank you, Joe. You clean up pretty well yourself,” I replied, feeling a blush creep up my
cheeks.
We decided to go to a cozy little Italian restaurant downtown. The atmosphere was intimate,
with soft lighting and quiet music playing in the background. As we sat down, Joe reached
across the table and took my hand.
“I’m really glad we’re doing this, Tessa,” he said, his eyes locking onto mine.
“Me too,” I replied, squeezing his hand gently.
The evening was perfect. We talked about everything—our families, our dreams, and our shared
passion for sustainable energy. It felt so easy and natural like we had known each other for
years. After dinner, we took a stroll through the park, the moonlight casting a silver glow over
everything.
Joe stopped by a bench and pulled me into a gentle hug. “Tessa, I’ve had an amazing time
tonight. You’re incredible.”
I looked up at him, feeling a surge of affection. “I feel the same way, Joe.”
He leaned in slowly, giving me plenty of time to pull away if I wanted to, but I didn’t. Our lips met
in a soft, tender kiss that sent shivers down my spine. When we finally pulled apart, we were
both smiling like idiots.

Over the next few weeks, Joe and I spent as much time together as we could. We went on
dates to museums, concerts, and even a few art galleries. But my favorite times were when we
were just together, enjoying each other’s company.
One sunny Saturday, Joe suggested we go on a picnic. We drove out to a beautiful park just
outside the city, Lovers Conner; a place I’d never been before. The grass was lush and green, the flowers were
in full bloom, and there was a serene lake glistening in the sunlight.
“This place is beautiful, Joe,” I said as we spread out a blanket under a large oak tree.
“I thought you’d like it,” he replied, unpacking the picnic basket filled with sandwiches, fruits, and
a bottle of wine.
We spent the afternoon lounging on the blanket, talking and laughing. At one point, Joe pulled
out a small Bluetooth speaker and played some of our favorite songs. We lay there, side by
side, watching the clouds drift by.
“Joe, this is perfect,” I said, turning to look at him.
“Not as perfect as you,” he replied, leaning in to kiss me.
Our kisses grew more passionate, and soon we were tangled in each other’s arms. Joe’s hands
roamed my body, and I felt a thrill of excitement as he pulled me closer. His touch was gentle
but firm, and every caress sent waves of pleasure through me.
“Are you sure?” he whispered, his breath hot against my ear.
“Yes,” I replied, my voice trembling with anticipation.
We made love there under the oak tree, the world around us fading away. It was tender and
intense, filled with a deep connection that I had never felt before.
Afterward, we lay in each other’s arms, the sound of the lake lapping gently at the shore.

Our relationship continued to blossom, and every moment with Joe was filled with joy and
laughter. We explored new places, tried new things, and built countless memories together. He
became my rock, my confidant, and my best friend.
One evening, as we were cuddled up on the couch watching a movie, Joe turned to me, his
expression serious. “Tessa, I want you to know that I’m here for you, no matter what. I heard a
rumor about your dad earlier today, I know it's not true, but it seems serious, whatever the case maybe we’ll get through this together.”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I hugged him tightly. “Thank you, Joe. I don’t know what I’d do
without you.”
“You’ll never have to find out,” he whispered, kissing the top of my head.
I felt a warmth spread through me, knowing that no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would
face them together. Joe had brought so much happiness into my life, and I was grateful for
every moment we shared.
As I drifted off to sleep in his arms, I couldn’t help but feel hopeful for the future. With Joe by my
side, I knew we could overcome anything.
