Chapter 7

I turned the car into the designated parking lot. After I parked the car, I took my hand bag that was in the shot gun seat and got out of the car. I pressed the alarm button once again before pressing the lock button. And then, I slipped the car keys into the hand bag and continued walking into the building. "ID please, ma'am." the guard said when I entered the building. I just smiled at him and showed the ID I was carrying. He let me in and I immediately went to the front desk. "Good afternoon, may I ask for your boss's office?" I politely asked to the girl on the front desk. "Any appointment, ma'am?" she asked politely. "Yes, I have. This five o'clock. I'm Architect Montemayor, by the way." I said and smiled at her. She nodded and dialed her phone, I guess she's calling the secretary. While waiting for their conversation to end I looked around. Everyone's busy, I can tell. The structure and the interior of this floor is also appealing. Not painful to the eyes. It's colored gray, not that dark, not that bright, just right. As well as the ceiling and the paintings glued to the walls. Everything looks attractive. "Excuse me, ma'am. The boss is on the top floor." The woman said and smiled at me and I returned the smile. I headed towards the elevator and pressed the open button. The elevator immediately opened and the three of us entered. A girl and a guy. Each of them have a document in hand and are busy dialing the phone. When the door closed, I immediately hit the highest floor number. And that is the fifty sixth floor. Wow! It will take a long time to build. With only three of us here, I couldn't help but hear the woman talking to her on the phone. "Come on, Shel. Sir Imperial will kill us both if you don't finish that! I don't want to lose my job yet," Tearfully, the woman said. "Just bring it to my table. Let's finish that together," that's when she turned off the call. "Just calm down, Bliss. You can finish that too," Encouraging word of the man. So they know each other, huh? I heard the girl took a deep breath before talk again. "I'm scared to be among the workers fired. I really need this job," the woman said. Their backs are facing me since I am in the back of the room. "Sir Imperial is very strict. He wants everything to be perfect. He doesn't want to make any mistakes. It seems like my big salary is the only reason why I still stick to this company, " she continued. And Oh... Backstabbing their boss, I see. "I really need this job so I'll put up with it," the woman said. They talked for a long time but I didn't listen anymore. Eavesdropping is bad. It's their privacy. So, I chose to wonder my mind into something interesting since we're still on the twenty fourth floor. And then my mind drift to my sister. To my dear sister Reshan. They might be in a honeymoon now. Well, I guess they are. I couldn’t help but be hurt by what I was thinking. You should be f*****g happy, Lexi. Your sister is now married with the man she loves the most! And the man you also love the most... My subconcious states. I was lost in my monologue when the elevator rang and the door opened. The two people who were talking a while ago went out of the elevator and the door closed once again, leaving me alone on the damn elavator. I'm still on the fourtieth floor. What is that! I patiently waited until I reached my floor destination. The door opened and I immediately went out. A lady in an office attire greeted me with a smile. "Good afternoon, Architect Montemayor. I'm Alyana Gallego, the one you talked with on the phone," SHe said smiling and I smiled back. "Hello. Nice meeting you." I said and looked at my wristwatch and realized it was quarter to five. "Sir Imperial's meeting is coming to an end. Please sit down first," She said and smiled before leading the way. I smiled before following her. She guided me into a room where there is a two single couch and a long sofa with a table in between the three seats. But before I could sit down the woman sneezed. "Uhm, Architect Montemayor," she said, looks so hesitant. "I'm one of your top fan readers with your novels. Y-your creations are beautiful so you became my idol." she said happily but I can feel her nervous. I smiled at her. "Thank you for reading and appreciating my works, Ms. Gallego." I said smiling genuinely. "Would you mind if I will take a picture with you? I'm really waiting for this moment, Miss Author." she said, looks so excited that make me smile even widened. "Sure." I said smiling at her. I gasped as I continued to s-sketch on my sketchpad. Miss Gallego told me that her boss's meeting can be delayed so I have to wait first. She made a coffee for me before she entered the conference room once again. The secretary was kind so maybe she will took a while in her work. Also, based on what I heard earlier in the elevator, their boss is a monster in business and even on his employees. I yawned and sipped the coffee on the center table. I've been sitting here for a quite long period of time. I had already double checked the blue prints Clint had sent me and the plates I had made. I'm also a perfectionist. I want everything in order. Clear as crystal. I turned to my watch before looking at the ramdom sketch I made. I almost blew out the coffee I was drinking. None of myself picked up the sketchpad and looked closely at the picture I had drawn. It's a bit like my son Kai, but the sketch is the girl version of him. What the hell is this? Am I asking for another Imperial? This is insane! I was just staring at the sketchpad and holding it tightly when someone entered the room where I am now. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting, Architect. Sir Imperial is already in the office," Miss Gallego said and smiled at me. "Follow my lead, please," she said. I smiled at her and quickly put away my scattered belongings. The sketch of my babyboy's girl version was hidden by the plates I made. I immediately stood up and grabbed the sling bag I was carrying with my cellphone, wallet, and a few other girly stuffs. I followed Miss Gallego walking down the hallway until we reached the far end of it. There was a table along this huge hallway which I think is hers. Miss Gallego stopped walking in front of the door and turned to me. "I can't join you inside, Ms. Author— I mean, Architect. I still have work to do." she said. The smile oh her face was genuine. "It's okay, and thank you for assisting me, Ms. Gallego." I replied politely with a smile. SHe just smiled at me too and gestured to the door. I could do nothing but nod and turn the doorknob to open the door. I enter the room silently and closed the door behind me. Automatically my eyes wandered around. Suddenly, I smelled a very familiar scent. My eyes landed on the man sitting in a swivel chair and looking straight at me.My eyes widen. "Y-you?" I spoke softly. I saw how he raised his eyebrow at me and frown. "Lexi Montemayor?" He uttered. Just the way he called my name, it's give a different emotion that he only can do. I blinked and fixed myself . I took a deep breath when I felt my chest throb. Okay, relax. Act natural. "Good afternoon. Lexi Montemayor, from Nikken Sekkei Architectural firms. I am the architect that was sent personally by Clint Tres Nikken." I said. Thank goodness because I didn't stammered in front of him. I saw him nod and gestured the visitor's chair in front of his table. "Have a sit." he said formally. I sat silently in the chair he pointed to. I immediately put down the plates and blue prints that Clint and I had made. I did the plates, and he did the blue prints. "I brought the blue prints and plates. You can scan those ones and you can always contact me if you want to update the plates and we made blue prints." I said without looking at him. I keep my eyes at the paper I was holding. He picked up the folder and opened it. All I thought was that he’ll ask me about this business, but that’s contrary to what I thought would come out of his mouth. "I thought you book a flight going back to Japan." he said. I look at him only to see him looking at me too. Oh s**t! "Uhm, Mr. Nikken just called me this morning and declared that I'll be working for someone in Cebu. I never thought it would be you." I said nervously. I know my voice weakened on the last line. I'm not expecting to see him. He nodded and set the folder down on his clean desk. He leaned on his seat to look at me calmly. I immediately erased the emotions that can be seen easily on my naked eye. I hate it when someone sees how emotions flash on my eyes. It's as if I'm giving them the privilege to see the real me. And it sucks! Really sucks! "Did you enjoy the party yesterday?" he asked. I averted my gaze at him because of his question. I was hurting every moment passed by, and you'll ask me if I did I enjoy your f*****g wedding party ?! "Of course, yes. I enjoyed. It was a grand wedding, indeed." I said. Oh, nice shot. I'm good at lying. I'm good at pretending. No one knows that I'm slowly dying inside. If he only can see my pain, but I know that my feelings doesn't matter at all. His stares were penetrating. He look at me in the eye as if he's searching for something making me avert my eyes into somewhere. I heard him groaned. "I'll give you a call after scanning these files. Come back here tomorrow so that you can meet the other teams from different companies. I want you all to work in harmony. Are we clear?" he said in strict voice. Just like his son, he's very bossy and demanding. I just nodded and smiled at him. I suddenly wondered why David was in front of me. "C-can I ask you a question?" I said nervous. "Go ahead." He replied in a cold manner. Is this how he talk to his employees? Scary, huh. I stretched the back of my ears and asked. "I thought you were going to honeymoon in Venice? B-but why are you still here? Where is my sister Reshan?" I finally said. I'm nervous, damn it! I hate how those dark brown eyes stare at me. "You're curious, I see." He said. He straightened up and sighed. "We canceled our honeymoon. We have a house. We can spend our honeymoon there." he answered. I immediately feel the pain in my heart because of his words. The reality hits me. The man I was longing ever since I saw him is now finally married. The father of my son is now finally married to my older sister. What will I do now? I already runaway from him but looks like the world is playing on me. I guess, I need to face the world. I need to face him and accept the truth. Just thinking about the truth, I feel hurt for my son. He's waiting for the right time to meet his father, but how do I will tell him the truth?
