Rolling over in her bed Shiloh bumped into something hard jarring her awake. She groaned and stretched like a cat, flexing her fingers and digging them into the blankets as she did. “Get up Shiloh, we have things to do today, and you have to get rid of that male you brought back last night first.” Shiloh startled as Fayrah’s words, realizing what she had bumped into, remembering the interlude on the balcony and the hours after in her room.
“I’ll get rid of him after I’m dressed so he doesn’t get the wrong idea when I wake him up.” Hopping off the bed Shiloh scurried to grab clothes and shower off the hairspray and makeup that surely had her looking like a mangy racoon right now.
“You shouldn’t have played with that boy, you know you don’t intend to keep him and we have too much going on for distraction. What would our mate think?” Fayrah was scolding her, great just how Shi wanted to start the day.
Turning on the water and stepping into the shower she snarked back, “We don’t have a mate Fayrah, none of us have mates, yes I am trying to dix that but our mate could have already gone mad and be gone or at the very least he’s done plenty of his own gallivanting while he was without us. I can de-stress how I see fit and it was fun.” She sighed as the hot water flowed through her hair. “No, I don’t intend to keep him, why would I keep someone I would inevitably have to kill, that’s why I chose someone who will leave and go back to his own pack lands. I won’t have to deal with him after.”
“Males are different Shiloh, when you find our mate, he will want to tear any man that has ever touched you apart,”
“It’ll be fine Fayrah.” Shiloh stepped out of the shower and quickly toweled off, throwing her clothes on she stepped back into her room and walked over to the bed. “Cal, wake up.” She said firmly shaking his shoulder. “It’s almost noon and I have things to do today.” She shook him once more and started for the door. “I’m headed to see Alpha Terry, be sure to shut the door as you leave.” With that she left, slamming the door behind her.
Cal was half asleep and confused on the bed, they had a very good time last night, he thought he might actually like her, unusual for him. She just shook him awake and left? Girls didn’t do that to him, they hung around trying to trap him into real relationships. This girl was strange, different beyond the red hair and blue eyes. And why would someone who didn’t have importance enough to meet with the new Luna last night be having a meeting with the alpha of the pack? Something didn’t add up there. He began to consider the questions she had asked the night before, maybe she is Alpha Terry’s girlfriend or mistress, and she wants to know what her position will be once he’s mated. He felt a little twinge of jealousy that caught him off guard and got up, pulling his pant’s on and scooping his shirt off the floor he left her room, still pondering his growing questions about who she was and what her purpose is.
Shiloh knocked on Terry’s office door, she didn’t know if he was alone or not so the façade of obedient soldier was in place. To her surprise Terry opened the door and let her in himself, retaking his seat behind the desk, back to the large mirror. “Vanessa noticed you last night.” He said in leu of a greeting. “She asked me to introduce you but since you said you didn’t want to deal with her, I distracted her.” Shiloh shrugged, uncaring. “You both live in the packhouse now Shiloh, you’ll have to deal with her eventually.”
“I want to see how she behaves before I have to talk to her. That is not why I am here, when we went to kill Vareese the other night there was a complication. You need to be briefed on the entire night.” Terry leaned back in his chair, getting comfortable for the story. Lennon had him, he caught him trying to escape on a dirt bike as the building went up In flames, I was fighting an ancient little blonde wretch that healed faster then I’ve ever seen, in Vareese’s loft. Bex was on the ground fighting against the vampires that tried to flee but she could see what went on with Lennon and Vareese and Lennon himself has been debriefed on the matter. Vareese is far faster than anticipated, Lennon could not touch his speed, beyond that Lennon put three rounds in his chest and he did not slow, he would have fallen had Bex not found a shotgun and fired at Vareese throwing him back across the warehouse. He still got up and road off on the bike. Once I was done with the blonde vampire upstairs, I heard a noise that turned out to be a fairy girl that Vareese has held hostage since she was six, I have her here. She will be staying with us, and you need to come up with a story for the pack regarding her.”
Terry just stared at her for a minute, processing everything she said. “I’ll come up with something to tell the pack about the girl, what is the plan for Vareese?”
“I find him, and I kill him.” The words were slow and dripping with malice. Vareese had harmed one of hers, he would pay for it dearly. Shiloh stood to leave, “We are making progress on the other matter as well, if you hear anything about the fairy wolf pass it along, they are the only piece we have no lead on.” Terry nodded and Shiloh left. She swung by the kitchen to grab coffee and a snack before heading to Bex’s room to see if her and Kira were ready to go shopping, the room was empty. Shiloh picked up her phone and scrolled to Bex in her contact log, the phone began to ring, once, twice, Bex picked up on the third ring. “Where are you guys?”
“I am attempting to teach Kira how to play pool in the game room, probably should have started with air hockey.” Shiloh heard Kira make a frustrated noise in the background and Bex chuckled.
“I’ll head down there, are y’all ready to go shopping?” Bex groaned like she was dying. “Oh hush you enjoy shopping with me and you know it.” Shiloh hung up the phone and took off downstairs to the game room. “Let’s go get you some clothes that actually fit!” Kira brightened, Bex contorted her face. “I’m sure we will find some sunflower stuff while we are out.”
“Ooo!” The dread turned to excitement like a flip was switched, Bex was bouncing on her heels and ready to go.
Shiloh parked the jeep in front of the mall and looked around, trying to make a mental note of where her car was in the endless sea of vehicles as Bex, and Kira got out. Noticing that Kira was shaken and uneasy at the overall size of the mall and the number of people it must contain Shiloh and Bex closed in on her sides and smiled as they began walking toward the building. They had parked near the food court, as soon as the door opened the many food smells hit them in the face and their mouths began to water.
“We should get food first, shopping burns calories.” Shiloh lighted and headed to the steak and potatoes stand to order loaded fries while Bex took off to the Subwa3y stand, both girls ordered extra food for Kira.
Sitting in the bustling food court Shiloh couldn’t help but ask. “Do you know where Vareese would have gone after the warehouse burned?” Kira nodded, mouth full of sandwich and mustard on her face. Honestly, she ate like an animal but Shiloh and Bex did two, so she fit right in.
Kira swallowed and sipped her coke before speaking, “He would have gone to the Cabin, its his next closest nest but still a couple days away by car. His general is there.” Bex and Shiloh locked eyes.
“Could you give us directions if we gave you a map?” Kira shook her head, downcast. “Could you show us where it is?” She perked up instantly feeling useful.
“Yes, I could show you! At least get you close; we went there a lot and he never bothered to blindfold me or anything.”
Bex scoffed, “He never expected you to get away, arrogant prick.”
Food finished they headed to the fancy undergarments store Shiloh favored to get Kira sized. Convincing her to allow the attendant to measure her bust was a bit of a chore but she settled pretty quickly and just seemed embarrassed. Bex picked some cute panties out, but Shiloh and Kira cleaned out the store. Moving on they stopped in Bath and Body Works to let Kira pick out some lotions and sprays that suited her taste. “You’re getting the full girl experience today.” Shiloh responded to the confused look on Kira’s face. “That includes finding you smelly good stuff you like. We can even go get your hair done if you want, I would say manicures but Bex hates them.”
Picking out clothes for Kira took much longer then picking underwear and smelly stuff combined, she had no idea what she liked or what looked good on her. Shiloh helped as best she could, but the girl’s waif like figure was not something she was used to dressing. Modesty was a high priority for her so that was considered at every store. Loose flowy dresses suited her well and she loved the feel of them, a few from every store made it into their bags. A few pairs of jeans, t-shirts and tank tops because Shiloh said they were a necessity. As they passed a prom and bridal store Kira glued herself to the window. “You’ll need a dress for Alpha Terry’s mating ceremony, I can guarantee it’ll be formal.”
Bex groaned, drawing attention of the people milling by, “That means we have to wear formal dresses again. You need to have a conversation with this man about making me wear these things!” She gestured to the window full of dresses. Shiloh laughed and headed into the store dragging Kira behind her.
“Nothing so over the top as what we wore last night, think simple and elegant, formal weddings are weird because everyone is dressed to the nines, but they can’t outshine the bride.” This time Bex scoffed, and Shiloh shot her eyes to her confusion evident on her face.
“I can see that brat yelling ‘Off with her head!’ because some girl looks better then her. In which case it’s going to be you because we could put you in a paper bag dress and you’d still look better than her. Imagine it, her screaming for your head and you just shut everyone down, the look on her face.” Laughter started breaking up her words as she imagined the scene, when she finally reached the end, she was almost doubled over.
“I’m not that pretty Bex but the rest of it I could agree with. We might as well find dresses for the wedding while we are here. Oh! No white, you can’t wear white to someone else’s wedding”
Dressed chosen, arms weighed down with bags and bags of clothes the girls piled everything in the back of the jeep and climbed in. “I’m hungry, we should go to that Chinese restaurant down the road in the strip, the one that serves real Chinese food instead of that watered down American stuff. I’m dying for red oil wantons.”
“Shiloh, you know I don’t like Chinese food.”
“Correction, you don’t like watered down crappy Americanized Chinese food, you don’t know if you like the real deal. Besides Kira probably hasn’t ever tried it and I am sure they have some options like chicken tenders for people who get drug in there that don’t like it.”
“Ugh, fine, they better have stuff I like though or we are detouring for a burger after.”
“Deal!” Shiloh through the shifter in reverse and let off the clutch backing out, she probably would have driven the whole way to the restaurant in reverse if she could rather then waste the time shifting.
Bex didn’t like anything she tried, Chinese seasonings just weren’t her thing, but they did have some American options on the kid’s menu and because the owners had known Shiloh since she was a child, they did not object to Bex ordering from it. Shiloh indulged in her red oil wantons and the various dishes she had ordered for the table to share; Kira tasted each one then heaped her plate with the things she liked. The red oil wantons were a hard pass for her, far too spicy. Bellies full and bill paid they headed back to the pack house, stopping once more for ice cream on the way.
“Sooooo,” Bex drawled, “What about that guy from the other pack you took off with last night?”
“What about him?” Shiloh shrugged.
“Well, I can guess what was going on, you have fun? You almost never pick up men.”
“Yeah, hours of fun, that’s why I overslept. I don’t pick up men because every time I think I’ve found a solid one-night stand or buddy they start spouting feelings and trying to stick around. Cal should already be back to his pack though, crisis averted.” Bex chuckled.
“There are worse things than one liking you and wanting to stick around Shi.”
“Not when I will have to kill them in a few years. It was fun though, and he was cute.”
“Hell, yeah he was!” All three girls laughed; Kira wasn’t sure why they were laughing but it was fun, so she was going with it.
Shiloh stopped the car in front of the packhouse, “Home sweet home! Tell Dre to get down here and get these bags.” The car erupted into laughter again, Bex pulled out her phone calling Dre who came out cussing under his breath with his eyes rolled halfway to his brain. Shiloh almost fell out of the Jeep she was laughing so hard.
“Love you Dre!” She called through her laughter. “Can you just take everything to Bex’s room? We will split it all up once we get in there.” She picked up the final bag and put the ribbon handle in his mouth, he looked ridiculous and not at all amused. Bex was doubled over on the ground laughing so hard tears were rolling down her face. Dre turned and took two steps before Shiloh busted out laughing again and yelled at him, “Wait up you goof,” she unloaded some of the bags into her own hands. “Let’s go.”
