The bathroom was dim, the yellow light from the main room casting its glow into it. The entire space carried the sweet smell of rose bubbles that covered the tub. Jessie lay deep in the warm water, staring into nothingness. Only her face and knees stuck out from the thick foam. The champagne bottle, almost empty, rested against her leg. The glass felt cold on her hot skin. She picked it up and turned it toward the light to check how much was left. Just a tiny bit of gold liquid moved at the bottom. “Ugh,” she let out a tired breath. Her head dropped back against the edge of the tub with a small bump. Her wet hair in folds. Her eyes looked up at the ceiling, not really seeing it, her thoughts above the roof.
