Rex’s eyes reddened, glaring in the dimly lit living room. The green turned dark, stormy. His mouth twisted. Words flew out sharply, fast like knives aimed straight at Jessie. His hand shot forward. Fingers tangled in her hair. Yanked hard, her knees wobbled up. Jessie’s head snapped back. Skin burned where the roots pulled. “Let me go,” she screamed, voice high, breaking a bit.
