Chapter 10

Paige wanted to tell Emma and Chloe about Daniel, for the sole reason that she told them about everything else. Why not this?

And yet, for some inexplicable reason, she wanted to keep this secret to herself just a little bit longer. 

So she didn’t… for the most part. 

“Hey, do you think talking to someone you’ve never met online weird?” Paige asked them one day, very casually. 

Emma eyed her suspiciously and Chloe said it wasn’t weird. Then more curiously she asked, “Is something going on?”

 “Nothing’s going on, jeez.” 

And that was that. 

It was a few days later and she’d been talking to Daniel on and off for about two weeks. Paige still didn’t know if Daniel was inherently a good person, but she enjoyed talking to him and that’s all that mattered. 

Paige had been doing some extra shifts, now that her family was running out of all the savings. Sarah had offered to help, but Paige shushed her. 

After one such long shift, she opened her phone to find a waiting text from Daniel. 

Daniel: You’ve been so busy lately, Princess 

Paige was too tired to overthink her texts at that point. 

Sophie: extra shifts… money is hard. 

Daniel: What?

She regretted telling him that instantly. Now her guard was up, equipped with thorns and all.

Sophie: Why is the idea of someone being broke so foreign to you, Mr. DJ? 

Daniel: I’m sorry. It’s just… you’ve never mentioned monetary problems before. You should’ve told me. 

Sophie: Why would I tell you? It’s none of your business.

Daniel: ouch. 

Daniel: It’s just…you know, I could’ve helped. 

Sophie: I don’t assume a DJ’s life is extremely lavish. Besides, I’m managing. 

Daniel: My parents…they help me live comfortably.

Paige had been suspecting that that might be the case for some time now. She’d never seen him complain about his finances, but then she didn’t know him long enough either.

Sophie: Must be nice.

 Daniel: Yeah, well. 

Daniel: Is your cover ready? That Bad For You song you’d recorded?

Sophie: I’m posting that tomorrow,actually!

Daniel: Awesome. You never know, it might blow up and you get a record deal.

Sophie: ha.

Daniel:  I’m serious. 

Sophie: This is just a hobby, Daniel. I’m not expecting to get a ton of following or anything. 

Daniel: Well I am expecting you to, so shut up

 Daniel: You can gain some more followers and get brand deals at the very least. They pay you generously, ive heard.

 Sophie: You seem to know a lot about this, huh?

 Daniel: I have a few friends in the industry. 

Sophie: of course you do

 Daniel: Anyway, keep hope. Tomorrow you’re gonna blow up.

 Sophie: Why are you sure, man?

 Daniel: I have a feeling

 Sophie: Okay then.

Paige knew Daniel was full of s**t, she couldn’t help but smile all the way home.

Sebastian Daniels was on stage and performing. He was full of palpable energy. The mic had never felt more at home, then in his hand. The lights were blinding his eyes, but it was these moments that he lived for. Time seemed to fly by when he was on stage and before he knew it, the performance was over.

He gave a practiced wink to the groupies, hugged his band mates, who shared his adrenaline rush and rushed out of there.

A nervous 16 year old fan met him backstage.

“I’m a huge fan of yours,” she exclaimed when she’d finally gathered her senses to voice intelligible words.

Sebastian let out a practiced chuckle. Robert and Jordan were the ones who usually dealt with fans, not Sebastian, not after what happened, but she seemed pretty harmless.

“All my favourite songs are the ones you’ve written yourself!”

“How do you know it’s not one of those guys who wrote them,” he asked.

“I can just tell, You have a distinct writing voice.”

Sebastian nodded, as if he understood her God knew, he didn’t.

He quickly signed her posters and went to join his friends.

He knew the paparazzi were waiting for him outside, and he wasn’t looking forward to that. At all. Instead he thought how Sophie is going to post a new cover tomorrow and how he can look at her face and feel her voice and things seemed lighter again.
