Sebastian Daniels was mesmerized by Sophie William’s voice. There was something so pure and innocent about it. He wanted to breathe it in and keep it there for safekeeping. He didn’t know if it were possible to be enamored by a voice, but he was. On impulse, he texted her.
Daniel: I didn’t mind the transition this time, thanks to me. But—
Sophie: But?
Daniel: Your voice wavered too much.
He had to pinpoint something, obviously. It was against his primal instincts not to.
Sophie: I thought a little wavering of voice doesn’t hurt?
Daniel: But a lot of it does. You were too nervous. Don’t be too conscious about how you sound.
Sophie: I blame you for pointing out my messed up transition.
Daniel: well, you sound great, so don’t be nervous.
Sophie: wow
Daniel: what?
Sophie: I think there was a compliment hidden somewhere.
Daniel: s**t, you hunted it down?
What was he doing, texting a girl he didn’t know? How much crazy decisions he could take before he could officially be deemed insane. He had so much on his plate already. What if this gets leaked out and sprouts even more rumors about him. Sebastian knew social media was his arch-nemesis, yet there he was fraternizing with it yet again—the stupidest of all mistakes. He was overreacting a tiny and he was well aware, but he couldn’t stop his trail of thoughts.
He decided to end whatever this was before it took flight. Before he could overthink this, he texted her.
Daniel: I’m too busy for this s**t.
Daniel: Goodbye
Sophie: You’re rude.
Daniel: Glad you’re finally aware
Sophie: Why?
Daniel: ?
Sophie: Why this unnecessary rude front?
Daniel: Stop psychoanalysing me. .
Sophie: It’s just that being this cold isn’t healthy.
Daniel: Talking to strangers on the internet ain’t healthy either, Princess. Thought we were past that.
Sophie: Touché.
A fleeting thought appeared in Sebastian’s head. He grabbed hold of it before it could escape.
Daniel: Fuckkk
Daniel: Wait
Daniel: Do you know who I am?
Sophie: Huh? Of course I don’t know who you are, stranger-on-the-internet.
Daniel: I’m serious.
Sophie: Oka-ay. How will I know you? What gives you the impression that I do?
Sebastian quickly accepted that answer. A little too quickly, almost as if he wanted it to be true.
Daniel: Never mind.
Sophie: Is there something you wanted to talk about?
Daniel: Nope.
Sophie: You sure?
Daniel: Yep.
Sophie: Great. Well, I gotta sleep. Have an early day ahead. Talk to you later?
Daniel: Ha.
There was absolutely no way on earth he was gonna get himself tangled in another mess, no way he’s gonna talk to her again. No way at all.
