Chapter 9

522 Words
Sebastian did a double take. She didn’t know who he was. She had no way of knowing. Right?  Sebastian wanted to come up with a reply, so he could know what exactly was going on without sounding too suspicious.  It took him exactly 3 minutes to come up with the perfect one.  Daniel: Why in the world would you ask me that lmaoooo Super casual. Maybe Sebastian couldn’t, but Daniel could be super casual. Sophie: Uh Sophie: It’s just…I’m hearing everyone gossip about them, especially now that they’re touring and I don’t see a big deal?  Daniel: What do you mean? You don’t like them?  Sophie: No, no, of course I do. I love their music, but I think people like them for all the wrong reasons.  Daniel: Wrong reasons?  Sophie: I heard a few ladies gossip about how “hot” they are.And yes, I know people are going to say something but they're saying way too much. Daniel: So you don’t think they’re hot?  Sophie: Ugh, you’re totally missing the point. I think lately it has become more about the drama and looks, then what it should be about… music.  Sophie: And for the record, I do think they’re easy on the eyes, but that shouldn’t matter right?  Sebastian smiled despite himself. He couldn’t help it.  She was right. Daniel: Yeah, you’re right. You’re so right.  Sophie: Yeah, anyway lol, I just wanted to know what you thought about the band Daniel: I have very mixed feelings, I would say.  And boy, if that wasn’t the most honest thing he’s ever said to her.  They talked about their lives until it was 3 am and Sophie ended up sleeping on Sebastian. Sebastian’s brain juices were flowing fantastically after their conversation—so fantastically that he opened the notes app on his phone and started writing down his stream of consciousness.   The world’s filled with suffering Over things that matter not The ludicrousness is contagious And I’m not immune to it all.   So I wear my defenses like a crown And I swim through the dark muddy waters of my own pool And I rub my eyes I rub it again I think Yeah I think I cant believe it but I think I saw a flash of light tonight.   Maybe the world’s not that bad after all. He quickly sent this memo to Robert and Jordan, the high of writing something that came from his heart after so long, filled him up to the brim.  He had a good sleep that night. ***  The morning came and snatched his throne away.  The magic from his lyrics had gone and they seemed utterly mediocre under the sun’s light.  “You can just ignore what I sent you to last night, guys,” he told the guys later that day when he joined them for practice. Their first performance was in four days. “It sounds like a nursery rhyme.”  Robert and Jordan looked at each other in mutual shock. “Are you kidding me?” Robert said, breaking the silence. “I loved it!”  Jordan nodded in unison. “Yeah, man. You did amazing!”  “You think so?” Sebastian asked sheepishly.  And both of them voiced their consensus so vehemently that Sebastian almost believed it himself. ***  Paige was on a break from her shift when she checked her phone. She was confused by what she saw.  Daniel: thanks. Sophie: ???  Daniel: Just thank you. Sophie: but why? Daniel: you helped me That confused her even further.  Sophie: with what?  Daniel: with something  Paige couldn’t help but laugh.  Sophie: Daniel?  Daniel: Yeah?  Sophie: You’re crazy.  Daniel: gotcha.
