CHAPTER TWELVE

983 Words
~Sayd~ "Do you live around here?" Kace and I had been talking for about an hour. We were in my room on my couch and on our third can of Diet Coke and leftover pizza that I had hm the fridge. I worried a bit at first about being alone with him considering how our encounters normally involved us getting on each other's nerves but he was an excellent conversationalist. I had put in a movie at first but we ended up talking through it. "Yeah.....yes. " "You sound hesitant," "No, it's just that, this is where my house is, but it just feels like I should be somewhere else. " "Oh, okay, somewhere like where?" "Just not here," he sounded like he didn't want to get into details so I left the topic there. "What about you?" he then asked. " Do you live here?" "Yes," I responded after gulping my drink. "But more like the outskirts of the City. "Okay. Do you mind if I ask you something a bit more personal ?" "Sure," I answered slowly wondering what it may be. " You and Timothy, are you really related?" "Yes," I said and my mouth stretched into a smile. I could see he was very confused by my answer. " I've grown up with him nagging me and telling me what to do like a good bug brother. " "Okay, " he said slowly and I felt the need to clear it up. "He's adopted, but it's never felt like it. My mom had some complications when it came to having her own kids. So they always wanted to adopt. Then she unexpectedly got pregnant with me. " "Oh, that makes so much sense now," he said. " So you're like a miracle baby. " "More like an unplanned baby. " "Well, the best things are unplanned." I smiled at him taking what he said as a compliment. I woke up at the sound of my phone buzzing. I was still feeling sleepy and I tried to ignore it but it just got louder and louder and my bed felt so good. I snuggled on to something that felt hard and when I opened my eyes I didn't expect it to be Kace's chest. I got up abruptly almost falling off the couch we were both on. The couch wasn't big enough for the both of us to fit which would explain why I was laying on top of him. I stretched out my hand to get my phone in my pocket and saw multiple messages from Mera and some from Ashanti telling me the coast was clear, but that was over six hours ago. I looked at the time and considered she still must be asleep at five a.m. I looked down at Kace who was still surprisingly very fast asleep. His chest went up and down and his head was turned to the side. Even in his sleep, he looked extremely yummy. I contemplated going back to sleep in his chest to continue enjoying the moment that would probably not happen again but we needed to act fast. "Wake up," I said tapping his shoulder. He moved and turned in his chair, moving me along with him and almost making me fall over. "Kace," I tapped his cheek and he slowly opened his eyes. Wait, he had no shirt on!? I went into panic mode checking to see if all my clothes were still on me. My sudden reaction made Kace to as well wake up. "What's wrong?" He asked as he sat up on my bed. "What time is it?" "Time to leave," I got up from the couch. I got his shoes and his car keys from my dresser. "Kace, wake up." I felt bad for waking him up in the way I was because he looked like he was sleepy still. But I couldn't risk a third strike. "Okay, I'm leaving," he said sitting up his hair was now very messy and one side of his face had lines on it. "Good, let's go." I walked him out of my room and down the stairs. He followed behind me tiptoeing through the halls. We walked down the two stories of stairs and to the front door. His car was just parked just outside the gate along with four other cars that belonged to other people in the building. We walked the path that led to the gate and we stood there. "I'll see you around," he said his eyes still sleepy. "Bye," I said. I had to admit that I enjoyed his company while he was here so much so that I wanted to hug him goodbye, but I didn't want to seem weird at the same time so I stretched out my hand. He looked down at my hand and raised his eyebrow making me realise that the handshake was just as weird. He huffed a laugh and at least he didn't leave me hanging. Out of being polite too, I decided to stay until he drove off. He unlocked his car and sat in the driver's seat and again searched for his keys. He started his car and looked at me again with a lopsided smile. I wanted to believe that the smile meant that he enjoyed my company too so I smiled back. Before I turned to leave, I saw a black car at its full speed emerging from across the streets from the bushes and heading for Kace's car. It all happened so fast, I could feel my knees weaken as I tried to run to Kace even though I knew I couldn't make it to him before the car. My vision blurred as tears formed in my eyes. "Kace!" Tears ran down my face as I watched the large four-wheel-drive car hit Kace's and sent it crashing and turning .
