Prologue part 2: Victims

488 Words
I want to minimize the damage, so this time there will only be three. Three very unlucky characters. Jesse Antonio Romero, Alexia Rachel Arendse and Deirdre Walter welcome to my world. “Who are you?” “Where are we?” They all ask from their separate dark spaces where they wait for their stories to be told. “You are all in the book. Don’t worry as I start creating your stories you will no longer be surrounded by darkness” I reply. “The book!? Is that supposed to be code for this prison?” Deirdre asks. “Why are we here? What did we do? And why can’t we see each other?” Jesse questions. “I need to do the introductions, or the readers will lose interest in the story. Then they will never open the book and there will be no light. So, calm down. I don’t want to be here either, but we need to move past this so that we get to the next chapter and keep surviving.” “Keep surviving? Listen I don’t know who you are-” “I’m the Narrator.” I interrupt Alexia’s statement. “Okay Narrator, look what is happening?” Jesse asks. “Like I said you are all trapped in the book. You all were put here for a reason. Unfortunately, I don’t know what that is. I didn’t put you here. I’m just as trapped. But there is one way out for you guys.” “Which is...?” Jesse asks. “I need to continue your stories and you guys need to move forward. We also need to stay interesting so that the readers don’t put down the book, because if they do its bye bye you guys and I restart with a new group of characters.” “Okay, so this sounds like some sort of game. That means there must be rules. What are they?” Deidre asks. “Rules to the ‘game’ are this. You can call on me when you need help, but otherwise you make as if I am not here. You all must follow your stories through till you meet each other. From there I will try and get you all to the end of the book without it being closed. You all need to accept the lives you are given and learn something from it. You need to tell me what you’ve learnt and if you are right you should return back to your life.” “And if we are wrong?” Alexia enquires. “Then you won’t make it to the next chapter” The book is filled with silence. It stretches. “Alright everyone get ready I’m about to start the story.”
