It had been a week since Heart had known the queen of her dreams. She thought of her before she went to bed as her eyes got lost in the black nights and she thought of her all her way to the academy. She opened the door to her practice room and saw two marble-like, blue and green eyes staring at her.
‘This is getting dangerous,’
Cyril stood on a wooden floor, trying to do the splits. His body was still much above the floor.
“It hurts!”
Heart laughed, “Just keep practising!”
She was teaching him about how to stretch and where to stretch, but ballet wasn’t everything he was learning with her. She taught him a simple choreography and the pointe. They looked into each other’s eyes as they danced. After class, they would go downtown and eat street food or grab some drinks.
She looked at him—puckered lips, shiny nails, white knuckles, strands of silky hair falling out of her loose ponytail, two different coloured eyes looking in the same direction, every look made Cyril more charming to her. He turned towards her with stains of sauce around his lips, “What is it?”
She smiled, “I never knew I’m a sucker for green eyes,”
He blushed, “Well, only one of them is green,”
“Yeah, the blue one, it’s got a different tale of its own,” She moved closer to him, “It’s like watching the night sky and something far beyond them,”
He blushed, “What is up with you today?”
“I don’t know. Help me figure it out,”
“I—” He turned red, “I’ll go home for today, bye!”
She smiled, “Looks like I’ll have to be the assertive one in our relationship,”
He was running fast. He hadn’t run that much in a while. His heart was pounding, but it was not because he was running for five minutes. He stopped near the bridge and looked down at the water. His face was red, he clenched the railings. There were so many questions in his head and all of them were shouting in his head altogether, “Does she like me? But I’m a woman right now! Is this how a girl’s friendship is?” He couldn’t think at all, his face was hot and his chest was burning. He quickly called Edgar.
“Ayo, wassup?! We out here doing a barbeque, wanna join?”
“Pick me up,”
He ate his dinner with Edgar and Skyler, that calmed him down a bit.
“I ate a lot of beacon, ah f**k! I'm feeling as crook as Rookwood so should go and see the doctor.” Edgar lay on the sand and began tapping on his phone. Skyler slept beside him and Cyril stood on the other side.
“Edgar,” He looked at the dark sky, sitting over the shimmering sea.
“Yeah?” Edgar looked away from his phone.
“How do you know if you have fallen for someone real bad?”
“Is it about Heart?” Edgar smirked.
“Tell me, Edgar. If that person makes you happy, does it mean you love them?”
Edgar smiled and looked at the stars.
“It’s scary to find someone that makes you happy. You start giving them all of your attention because they are what makes you forget everything bad that’s going on in your life. They’re the first person you want to talk to in the morning, and the last one before you sleep just so that you can start and end your day with a smile."
Cyril smiled and Edgar looked at him, "It all sounds great to have that someone, but it’s scary to think about how easily they could just leave and take that happiness away too when they go.”
Cyril looked at him, “I am ready to take that risk. I really love her,”
“Well, if you really love her, learn to wait. Maybe you’re not meant to be together today, but maybe in the future? I mean, you never know. If you’re meant to be together, you will be together, no matter what,”
Cyril nodded and looked at the huge waves before them, “The tides are wack today,”
“I got some surfboards in the beach house, what do you say? Night surfing?”
Cyril smirked, “Let’s go, baby!”
Cyril twitched his eyes as he stood in the garage with Edgar, “What the f**k? WHY DID YOU GET A BIKINI FOR ME!”
“Why not? You’re a sheila now! Time to get them bois!”
“SHUT THE f**k UP!”
“Oi wear it!”
“NO!”
“I’m not asking you! DO IT NOW!”
Cyril sat in a corner in a bikini, “I hate how you manage to convince me into doing some weird s**t every time,”
“Well, it’s a superpower,” Edgar stood in his trunks, “Now come! Stop being a useless layabout! The Australian coast is calling my name! Let’s see if you can defeat me with a female body,”
Cyril slowly got up and covered his body with the surfboard.
“Do I look weird?”
“No, just come ‘ere mate. You look like a normal sheila,”
“It’s embarrassing,”
“Mate, you and I have even swum naked in the ocean,”
“Yeah, but I was a man then!”
“You think you'll get away with it? Like fun you will! GET YOUR ASS UP!”
“No,”
Finally, Cyril changed back into a sweatshirt and shorts. “Better”
Edgar looked disappointed, “Let’s jump now,”
They jumped into the ocean, as Cyril went in, he could feel the cold ocean water rub his skin, the ocean seemed dark and unfriendly at night, he quickly swam up and reached his surfboard. He lay flat on his surfboard and looked at the wave before him. It was coming at them, fast and humungous. He got on his surfboard and his feet took their position. He went right in and jumped about fifteen feet high on the wave, he could see the entire Sydney harbour. The waves were shining silver at night.
‘Wow, this body is light,’ Cyril thought.
“WOHO!” Edgar jumped right before him, “Mate I am done, going to pack it in - this wave doesn't look like it's gonna let up!”
Cyril laughed, “Have a go ya pansy!” He went into the wave and decided to try some tricks. It had been a while since his feet touched his natural element. He wasn’t used to a body that light. So, every trick he did surprised him because he was better at everything.
Suddenly, the waves grew violent. His old self could have controlled the board, but his new body was too light to keep him stable, “s**t s**t s**t s**t!” And boom, the water took him out. His surfboard got stuck in the rocks, and he pulled his feet but his surfboard leash kept him underwater.
“EDGAR!” He shouted in the water but it was dark for Edgar to see him. He pulled his leg but the surfboard just won’t move. He was stuck underwater, running out of the air in the dark. It was pitch black, he couldn’t see anything around him. He moved his hands frantically.
“HELP ME!”
Was his own element going to kill him?
No.
Because when he looked up, he could see the moon shine bright and a shadow cover it. Shadow of a man, toned muscles and long body, must be a surfer. That was a surfer's body. He dived in and broke off the surfboard leash. He grabbed him and they both went up. Cyril landed on the rocks and convulsed out saltwater. “My chest feels like it’s gonna blowout,”
“You shouldn’t surfboard at night if you ain’t a professional,”
“I am a professional!” Cyril shouted and turned back. It was Tristian! His arch-rival!
Tristian widened his eyes, “Cyril Edwards?” He recognised his heterochromatic eyes. Cyril quickly covered his face while Tristian laughed, “What the hell? Why are you here?”
“It’s got nothing to do with you,” Cyril got up.
“Hey, you look thin. Ain't you eating well?”
“Leave me alone,”
Tristian grabbed his arm and Cyril turned back, ‘Do I look the same?! How the hell does this bloke recognise me!’
“What do you want?!”
“Your face looks kinda weird, not to mention, you grew your hair,”
“Yeah, my head, my wish,” Cyril tried to pull his arm away but his grip was strong.
Tristian chuckled, “Don’t tell me you can’t pull away,”
“Shut the f**k up!”
“It’s pretty usual for you to lose your temper,”
“Today ain’t the day to mess with me!” Cyril pulled away and Tristian left his arm. Cyril went down but he grabbed Tristian’s hair.
“BASTARD!” They both fell but Cyril pressed his elbows on the rock beneath him to prevent his head from hitting the ground. Tristian squeezed his hands on Cyril’s chest to counter falling on him.
Tristian’s eyes widened and Cyril pushed him away. He jumped into the ocean and swam to the beach while Tristian looked at his hands.
“Cyril Edwards...Don’t tell you were a really flat girl all along,”
