Pops leaves me alone sometimes
Aimee and Cassie unlocked the front door of Ben’s house. When they entered, Cassie called out for Pearl.
A doll’s face peeked out from behind the corner of the kitchen.
Cassie said, “Why, hello, Buttercup! Have you seen Pearl?”
Buttercup’s head went up and down.
“Oh, good. Please let her know that friends are here to see her.”
Pearl stepped into their view.
“Where’s Pops?”
Aimee squatted down to Pearl’s eye level.
“He wasn’t feeling well, so he went to the doctor.”
“We wanted to bring you over to my house across the street so that you won’t be alone.”
“Pops leaves me alone sometimes.”
Cassie and Aimee exchanged glances.
“What do you do when you’re alone?” Cassie asked.
“Sometimes I watch a cartoon. Pops gives me peanut butter and jelly sandwiche
