John Luke and his parents led us across the street to a small park where we found a small secluded picnic table to talk at. Images of the picnic from my dreams come to my mind.
"Can you please tell me more about them?" I asked nervously.
"Of course dear anything you want to know" Mrs. Sheehan responded "but I think John Luke has something for you to see first"
I turned to see John Luke hold up a small bag, which he opened and pulled out a picture frame and a small brown teddy bear. "I thought you might want these back" he said while rubbing the back of his neck.
Tears filled my eyes and I realized this was the same bear I have seen in my dreams for the last 16 years. I took it and held it tight against my chest whipping my eyes I began to examine the photo he held. The faces that looked back at me were Sean and Marie from my dream, younger versions of the Sheehan's and the boy from my dream, John Luke, struggling to hold me.
There was no question whether this picture was me or not. I have seen hundreds of pictures of myself from this age after being adopted.
As this realization hit me the tears I had been holding fell bursting forth like a dam had burst inside of me. Sobs wracked me as I thought about what life might have been. John Luke wrapped his arms around me pulling me into him enveloping me in his arms surrounding me with his scent, sparks tingled my skin where we touched.
"mate" the word passed my lips no more than a whisper, but to my surprise John Luke whispered it back.
I leaned back slightly "Th-thats me, this is my bear." tears filling my eyes "why did you keep it?"
"Because I knew I would see you again one day" John Luke answered in a husky voice kissing my forehead.
My heart melted at his answer and I wrapped my arms around him. "Thank you" was all I could manage to get out
John Luke gently whipped the tears from my eyes and I turned to his parents. We all took a seat at the picnic table and his parents began telling me stories. After an hour of being told good stories about my parents I finally got up the courage to ask questions.
"I have had the same nightmare for as long as I can remember and I feel crazy even saying this out loud but they turn into wolves but when they died they became human again." I said it quickly almost hoping no one heard me.
His mother's eyes softened as she looked at me "oh honey you aren't crazy we can explain"
"I feel crazy" I looked up at John Luke and his parents tears rimmed my eyes "I apparently think that werewolves are real"
John Luke wrapped his arms around me"let's go to my office and we can explain everything Sadie I promise you aren't crazy do you trust me?"
"Okay" I responded drying my eyes "I trust you"
I shot off a text to Kate that we were going to his office so he could show me more pictures and let her know I was okay.
Walking towards his office he held my hand and his parents told even more stories of us growing up. When we arrived at the office my eyes went wide.
"You work for M&S Architecture?" I asked surprised looking at John Luke and his parents.
John Luke chuckled and looked at his dad "I guess you could say that"
"I am so jealous!" I exclaimed "I applied for the architecture program at the college a few towns over they run internships for. I have always wanted to go into the field"
"Did you get into the program?" Mr. Michael asked from just behind us.
"Well yes" I answered not sure how to explain I didn't have the money for school, "but I'm not sure I will go there"
"Why not? Did you get into a better school?" John Luke asked with a glint of sadness in his eyes.
"I didn't get an internship that I needed to be able to afford school here. I have scholarships to other schools for track and academics so I am going to have to go there and just give up on architecture" I said ashamed.
Mr. Michael chuckled from behind me "I can assure you that I will personally make sure you have the internship"
"Oh my gosh are you serious" I couldn't help but squeal and launch myself towards Mr. Sheehan hugging him tight.
"Of course dear" he laughed "you are the daughter of one of the founders. It is safe to say you have a place working here and you don't have to worry about paying for school"
" I could never ask or expect you to pay for my college!" I exclaimed.
"You don't have to Sadie your parents had trust set up for you" John Luke explained "My parents kept them up after they passed in hopes of us finding you again. The money is all yours once we can officially prove to the bank you are you"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing I had just gotten the internship and learned my dad helped found the firm I had dreamed about working for and apparently I had money now.
I thought about my adoptive dad, he had sacrificed so much for Kate and I over the years especially since Mom died a few years ago and he had given up his good job to be home more. I had already made up my mind that at least part of this would go to him.
John Luke unlocked the front door ushering me inside towards a large conference room but not before showing me several large pictures of my father around the office.
