'The budding twigs spread out their fan,
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.' - Line Written in Early Spring, William Wordsworth.
Vanaheim — the highest level of the World Tree: Yggdrasil
The air was peaceful as Gersemi threaded and weaved flowers into her crochet - yellow daffodils and blue brunnera. It was not long that the air turned from peaceful to hostile as Gersemi's mother, Freya threw open the door and started screaming.
"I swear to riot!" Freya exclaimed as she slammed the door to the kitchen, making Gersemi jump at the sound. Freya ran a hand through her blonde hair in frustration as she started to pace the living room of her palace.
"What?" Gersemi asked her mother, placing her crochet down before turning her posture on the lounge to watch her mother pace.
"Odin, the sly vermin!" Freya screeched as she picked up Gersemi's hand mirror which was lying on the dining table and threw it out the floor to ceiling window.
"What has that old man done to you now?" Gersemi asked, frowning as she stood up from her position in the lounge to look out the window to see her mirror being picked up by a youngling. (She would never see that mirror again).
"Ugh, Loki!" Was all that Freya exclaimed, her anger making it hard to speak a coherent sentence.
"Mother, if this is about that stupid necklace I swear I will hit you!" Gersemi groaned as she walked over to her mother and grabbed her shoulders.
"You were never meant to have it either you sneaky minx." Gersemi joked, only making Freya roll her eyes and shrug her daughters hands off her shoulders.
"It's not just that! They plan to shut the Bifrost. Gods and Goddesses will have no choice but to stay in their realms!"
"Your point, mother?" Gersemi asked as she walked back to the lounge and sat down, collecting her crochet and placing it on the lounge chairs arm rest.
"Hnoss will need to come home then!" Freya exclaimed making Gersemi roll her eyes.
"She is of age now anyway, it is not a big deal. And besides, you sent her down there. She's probably seducing someone as we speak, not even knowing how she does it." Gersemi says, sass taking up in her voice. Freya stopped pacing the room and glanced at her daughter in disbelief.
"Daughter!" Freya warned, making Gersemi sigh and slouch in her chair.
"Why is it a problem?"
"Because of all the people to send down to collect her, they are sending down Loki!" Freya exclaimed, her problem now being released into the air. This was what she was afraid of.
"Mother, the last I heard; Loki was being sent to the western side of Norway. He is going down to collect Viking treasurers left among the coast. He will not find her, even if he did he would not know what she looks like as she has grown since her life up here." Gersemi says looking up from her slouched position.
"I suppose you are right, daughter." Freya said, heaving a sigh and looking up to the roof, she felt defeated. All she wanted was for her daughter to be safe away from the realms.
"I just hope she is safe, and not using her powers for evil." Gersemi adds quietly, making me scoff and look down from the ceiling.
"She is the Godess of Lust and Desire, how can she use that for good? She is probably a whore." Gersemi says, crossing her arms over her chest. My eyes widen in shock as I hear the foul language spill from her lips.
"I do not like the way you talk about your younger sister, it saddens me that you don't think highly of your own flesh and blood." I spit, as I turn my attention to her on the lounge.
"Mother, you act so naive! Have you seen most of the humans staring at her like she's meat, I bet you galleons that Loki might find her and make his move on her while he is 'working' down there!" Gersemi spits, her jealousy showing.
"People look at me, but not the way they look at Hnoss." She whispers, sulking back on her couch.
"Your words are very capricious, Gersemi."
"How so, mother?" Gersemi asked, turning her attention to Freya.
"One moment you talk with such empathic tenderness and then just now you spoke of your sister dreadfully, do you not have remorse; child?"
"I do not care for a god whom chooses to live among the Midgaurdians." Gersemi said as she arose from her position on the lounge.
"Child she had no choice." Freya said, disbelief laced in her words at Gersemi's behaviour.
"She had a choice. Do not deny it mother; you and Odin both know she had a choice." Gersemi spat, making Freya cross her arms in defence. A thick silence fell among the two goddess as they both stood watching each other. For the first to move or start another argument.
"That's it, I'm going to Odin." Freya said as she sighed and stomped past Gersemi whom only chuckled and shook her head at her mother. Freya could still hear Gersemi as she opened the front door and started to walk out into the flower fields surrounding their palace.
"What's he going to do?!" Gersemi yelled from out the window making Freya turn around and throw a sphere of light at her daughter, narrowly missing her head through the window as a loud shatter came from the room.
With a sigh, Freya stopped her walking and lifted her head to mumble incoherent words before she patiently waited for Heimdall to open the Bifrost. Freya watched as the glimmer of a sparkling rainbow shoots over her and she is pulled into its force. It wasn't long until Freya was standing in front of Heimdall himself, a warm smile on his features.
"You have come to see Odin?" Heimdall asks, taking his sword out of the Bifrost. Freya nodded her head.
"I have, Heimdall. Is he not busy?" She asked her blue eyes searching Heimdall's golden ones for an answer.
"He is talking with Loki about his quest in the main room of his kingdom." Heimdall tells, as he opens his arm for Freya to take, Freya dies and they both walk to the entrance entrance of the Asgard's Bifrost.
"He has not yet started his quest?" Freya asked before stopping in her tracks to face Heimdall.
"It will be sooner then later, Freya. If you wish to talk to Odin, I suggest you make your way up now; as his plans for Loki will be soon." Heimdall says, nodding his head as Freya bowed and thanked him for his knowledge before she removed her arm and started up the rainbow bridge to Asgard.
Walking past other Gods and Goddesses, Freya felt out of place. They were all on the same level of power and royal ladders, but Freya saw herself as just a broad whom had flings with most of the Gods and Vikings whom made their way to Valhalla. Freya is apart of the Valkyries and the gods all knew what they did behind closed drapes.
Being the Goddess of fertility, Freya fled to Vanaheim and started her own kingdom alongside her husband, Od god of daylight and daughters: Gersemi and Hnoss.
Extraordinary things happened and here Freya was, walking up the golden stairs to talk to the Allfather.
Freya had made it to the top of the stairs when the large golden doors opened in front of her. Freya watched as Odin, Thor, Loki and a few Asgardian soldiers walked out.
Freya bowed her head in respect before looking up to the three.
"Freya, how is my favourite Goddess?" Thor smiled as he grasped Freya's left hand and kissed it gently.
"Ah, Thor. You do nothing but heighten my ego with your words." Freya said as she smiled to the young prince.
"I would assure you, every word I say about you is in total admiration." Thor said as he let go of Freya's hand. Loki scoffed quietly and rolled his eyes behind his brother as Odin nodded his head to Freya.
"What brings you to Asgard?" Odin asked, touching Thor's chest to move him out of the way as they continued down the stairs.
"Walk with me if you will, Freya."
"I have come to speak with you about the decision to close the Bifrost."
"Ah yes, did Od come and confront you?"
"Unfortunately no? It was my sister, Brynhildr."
"I have made a decision to close the Bifrost from gods travelling down to Midgard for pleasure not business. You and your Valkyries will still be able to collect the souls worthy for Valhalla. Od will still be able to meet with Demeter and all the other spring gods as it is all business." Odin said as he continued down the stairs and started on the rainbow bridge.
"Yet you are sending your son down?" Freya said as she kept up with Odin's stride.
"For business, Freya. Do not question me about my sons." Odin said as he stopped, halting the three other gods in his presence.
"Then what about my daughter, Hnoss? I expect her to be brought back." Freya asked, making Odin scowl and the two brothers tense.
"Thor, take your brother to Heimdall and wait for my presence."
"But father-." Loki started making Odin turn his attention to the two gods.
"Do not let me repeat myself, go." Odin said as he watched his two sons roll their eyes in defeat and turn to walk along the Bifrost.
"Your daughter, Hnoss. She was sent down for her own protection?"
"Yes Allfather.
"Because the Seer told of her future, with my son Loki? Please stop me if I am wrong."
"You are correct Allfather."
"I did not trade my eye for nothing, Freya. And I mosh certainly did not hang myself from Yggdrasil for nothing either. If I were to see a threat between my son and your daughter; I would have spoken to you directly."
"Yes...but-"
"You sent her down without consulting me, if you are not ready for the consequences of your actions; then please humour me."
"Odin, the Seer has never lied to me. For the five-hundred years he has lived; he has not failed me."
"But you have failed me, Freya." Odin said as he turned away from her to start walking along the bridge himself before stopping and turning back.
"I will see what I can do for your daughter. I plan to close the Bifrost as soon as Loki has returned from his quest. If Hnoss has not yet to discover her worth she shall be banished to Midgard for the rest of her days." Odin said before turning and walking down the bridge.
Freya stopped in her tracks at the words Odin spoke.
Odin was meant to be wise and faithful, to Freya he seemed to be what the Midgardians would say: 'a bit of a prick.' Freya has not know how long she stood on the bridge, going over Odin's words about her daughter until the sky became lime green and a males voice screamed through the air.
Freya looked up to the horizon and watched as the Bifrost shot down the skyline, Loki screaming as he went.
