I text Nana to meet me at the little café called the breakfast bar, I loved how hip and savvy Nana is. I decided to take a seat at one of the tables outside, there weather has always been great, and given that it is summer.
Getting restless I decided to call Nana, she answered on the third ring “Hi Mia, will be there shortly, I hope you don’t mind if a friend joins us.” and with that she ends the call.
I am not in the mood for extra company, I need to break the news to Nana that I plan on leaving next week, I need to start going back to my life.
I am really happy that Nana has friends around here to keep her company, Nana and I are all the family we have and it comforts me knowing that she has people close to her that loves her.
To pass time I decide to take out my phone, I see 3 missed calls and a text messages from Sam, she has been checking in on me since the time of the accident, and it warms my heart knowing that I will see her soon.
I see Nana approaching me with a woman younger than her and surely older than me, Nana introduced me to a beautiful almost mid aged lady. Jennie this is my grand daughter Mia, I have been talking to you about, Mia please meet my dear friend Jennie. I extended my hand and instead she pulled me into a hug, I nice to meet you she warmly says and I like her she has an aura that I am just drawn to.
The waiter soon arrived to take our orders, and Nana and Jennie ordered “the usual” which made me wonder how often they came here, my question was answered when Jennie told me how they also enjoy the morning times close to the pier, apparently they come here every weekend for their breakfast and are well know by the staff at the breakfast bar.
Jennie looked at me sadly and gave me her sincere condolence of the loss of my parents. I gave her a faint smile and a small thank you.
Just then breakfast arrived and I couldn’t be more thankful, we chatted about everything and everything, laughing in between which felt foreign but I enjoyed it. So what are your plans now that you have graduated Nana asks, I gulp down my coffee knowing that this is the time to tell Nana, “Well I have been thinking of going back to New York next week, to start job hunting.”
Jennie stood up smiling as I was telling Nana about my plans to go back to New York, and I turned around to see what she was looking at. I looked at Nana who was smiling as a man approached us, Nana greeted the same man from the pier with a hug, I looked at all of them confused when Jennie spoke up, Mia meet my son Adrian, Adrian this is Mia, Mrs. Jacksons granddaughter, and before I could say anything he extended his hand, nice to meet you Mia, he has a cute smile with a deep set dimple on the side of his left check.
Nana insisted that he join us for breakfast, Nana I am sure his busy I say, knowing that his dazzling smile is almost torture, but Adrian cut me off, he actually wanted to stay for breakfast.
Finally, breakfast came to an end and I couldn’t be more thankful, since Adrian joined us I felt a pull towards him and I cant wait to get away from him.
Standing up I hug Jennie, “Thank you it was really nice meeting you” I politely say. Oh dear, I forgot to mention I invited Nana over for dinner this evening and would love for you to come, I was about to decline, when Nana said I will be there, giving me a smile, I returned Nanas smile hoping Adrian wouldn’t be there.
Nana I have a few things to take care of I will be back as soon as I am done, I give her a hug and walk away.
I felt a hand grab mine, and what feels like electrical currents pass through more almost burning, Nana and Jennie looking at me confused, I see Adrian holding my hand, his tall yet muscular frame towering over my small frame, he took something out of his pocket and as my eyes fall on it I recognize the locket my parents gifted me, the last gift, I take it and almost whisper a small thank you as a stubborn tear fall from my cheek. Guilt washing over me, I hadn’t even realized that I lost it, I let go of his hand, clasping the chain around my neck, thanking him one more time before leaving.
ADRIANS POV
I don’t give a f**k, get this s**t sorted I want no delays on the site in Venice, I yell at one of my project managers overseeing the construction of one of the 3 new hotels in Venice.
I decide to get a quick bite to eat, before the conference call with the investors from Morocco.
I walk in the direction of the breakfast bar, and I see my mother and Miss Jackson, I was about to make a narrow escape, but my mom had already seen me. I walk over to them with every intention of a quick hello, not wanting to be late for the conference call with the Moroccans and avoid sitting with two old ladies over breakfast, just then my eyes fall on her, the girl from the Pier, what was she doing here, with them.
I try to hide my curiosity but a strange current pull me toward this girl. Adrian mom says, meet Mia Miss Jacksons Granddaughter, Mia this is my son Adrian. I extend my hand to and felt the softest dainty hands, yet it fit perfectly in mine. What the hell is wrong with me.
Miss Jackson insisted I join them for breakfast, I quickly text my assistant to cancel the conference calls something urgent came up. What is it about Mia that keeps drawing me to her, she is borderline average height, cream silky skin, a gorgeous body, but its not like I am not use to any of this, I have had supermodels laying next to me and under me. My mind wondered[A1] off until the sound of her voice caught my attention “Thank you, it was really nice meeting you”, she thanked my mom so sincerely.
Why am I so intrigued yet annoyed by this girl, she is definitely not my type, the soft hearted never last.
I remember the locket but she was already leaving, oh no not again. I grabbed onto her hand and there it was again that current drawing me to her, I took the locket out of my pocket and handed it to her, she took it with shaking hands, I looked down at her and saw a lone tear escape her eyes, and in that moment I felt like crumbling everything around me, she whispered a small thank you in such an angelic voice, I felt my insides melt away and before I could say anything she turned around and walked away.
Who is this girl?
What is she doing to me?
I need to stay away from her!
