Elaina
“Let her go!”
I shrugged, “not until you tell me where my pups are.”
The man shook his head. “You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into. That’s the Luna you’re holding so disrespectfully.”
My brows furrowed, “look who’s talking. The only person being disrespectful here is you—sleeping with your Alpha’s woman?”
He growled, pushing his body forward like he wanted to attack. “I will have your tongue for that!”
I tsked, shaking my head as I pressed the scalpel tightly on the queen’s throat. She gasped and trembled with fear, causing her lover to growl at me.
“Troy,” the queen pleaded, “let’s try to reason with her before things get out of hand.”
To them I was this haggard and out of control wolf that came from nowhere. My actions and the way I talked definitely gave me away as someone dangerous with an unstable mind, but deep down I was none of that. At least I don’t feel dangerous.
My inside trembled and my heart leapt violently against my ribs. I was terrified to death. Not only because of the tall and extremely muscular wolf growling at me, but also because I’ve f****d things up. For me and my kids.
Stupid me.
How did I not think this through? Its already bad enough that I’ve stepped onto forbidden soil. Now here I am threatening the Luna of a probably dangerous Alpha. Even worse, I now know a secret I’m not supposed to.
A gentle smile played on my lips despite the heavy beating of my heart. “Now that’s what I’m talking about. I’ll let her go if you give me my pups and let us out of here.”
Troy is quiet for a moment then he shakes his head. “I’m sorry but I can’t do that.”
“Why not, do you want your lover to die?”
“We are not lovers,” he exhaled. “She's Luna and I’m Beta. It’s not possible for us to be lovers.”
I shrugged, “but you both made it possible, didn’t you?”
Before he could give a response, an idea struck my mind. It was the kind of idea that’d paint me as a evil. It’s one I ought to have used against my stepmother five years ago. Blackmail.
“I overheard your conversation when I was pretending to be asleep.” Regret washed over me the moment the words slipped out, but then again, my instincts for me and my kids' survival kicked in.
“I know you’re both having an affair. A forbidden one. And I’m pretty sure your Alpha doesn’t know about this, but I can assure you that I’d personally deliver the message if we don’t start discussing how to get me and my pups out of here.”
The shivering Luna mumbles something under her breath. I didn’t hear her clearly so I leaned closer. But I regretted that in the next second.
She slightly leaned her head forward then smashed the back of her head on my nose. Pain exploded through my face and head as I stumbled back. In that same moment the Luna violently wriggles free from my grasp. I shut my eyes, instinctively clutching the assaulted part of my face. Warm fluid trickled through my nostrils and onto my hands.
At that slight moment of losing my balance and focus, suddenly, something heavy knocked me off my feet and slammed my body to the ground.
I blinked my eyes open just to see the beta pinning me to the ground. His knee painfully grinded into my ribs and o wince, air wheezing out of my lungs as I desperately scraped the floor.
“You think you can threaten us?” He hissed, his breath hit against my cheek. “You—”
Before he could finish, a voice sliced through the chaos in my head. I didn’t just hear it. I felt it.
“Hold on, mate. I’m coming.”
The sound of the voice wasn’t foreign. I’ve heard it before, buried deep in my souls like a wound that never healed. That voice, so smooth, commanding, demanding, laced with power and possession. It was him.
My nightmare. The intruder of creekwood.
The world tilted, and my pulse began to stutter. The air suddenly grew thick with memory his heat, his touch, the night everything changed. He wasn’t here, but I could feel his delicious scent wafting through my nostrils like an aroma that was capable of curing my hunger. That mysterious sandalwood scent with hints of something darker. He was getting closer.
My wolf whimpered with recognition and longing. “Mine.”
I swallowed hard, forcing words out of my mouth despite my heart threatening to shatter my ribs. “You should get off me,” I warned, not evening understanding why I did so. My voice trembled, but I was certain. “Get off because my mate is coming.”
The beta barked a laugh. “You are delirious.”
I lifted my chin. “Then tell me you don’t feel that. The aura approaching.”
At that very moment, the air shifted. A heavy pressure could be sensed rolling through the walls, bending even the air itself. The atmosphere quickened, thickening with power so intense even the beta’s eyes flare in shock.
His eyes darted to the door. “What the hell, Lord Aiden?”
I gasped. “Lord?” I don’t think much before grabbing him by the neck of his shirt. “Listen to me, no matter what happens, don’t mention my pups. If you don’t, I won’t breathe a word about your affair.”
The door burst open, slamming against the wall so hard that it cracked.
And there he was, looming at the entrance like death itself.
The intruder. The same man whose touch had burned me alive five years ago. Those same cold emerald eyes that once stared at me like I was something worth worshipping. However now, they glowed with something primal—almost animalistic.
That scent. Oh, that scent was thick enough now to give me vivid images of our forbidden night together. My n*****s hardened slightly with some f*cked up anticipation.
His aura filled the room in a second, so suffocating that for a moment, I forgot how to breathe. His wolf and vampire energy were barely caged. I could sense them pacing underneath his skin because every cell in my body remembered him. The sin. The warmth. The Heartbreak.
The beta barely had time to move before my mate crossed the room in a flash, hands wrapped around his throat. He slammed his beta into the wall, hard enough to leave a dent and cause the windows to rattle.
“Touch my mate again,” he snarled, voice dangerously low and lethal, “and you’ll lose that hand.”
