Rhett POV The drive back home was quiet. Margot had passed out against the passenger window somewhere between the city and the long private road. Louise kept his eyes forward and his mouth shut. He was the old driver’s son, raised specifically to drive for me. He knew every secret this family had ever buried. Still, with the marriage being nothing more than paper, he never once reached for my so-called wife. I got out, walked around, and stood there looking at her for a few seconds under the porch lights.
