The silence between words

Chapter 33: The Silence Between Words That night the city was quiet. Apollo and Athena were sitting on the balcony of their apartment, just like they had done so many years before when life had still been uncertain and full of dreams. Now their dreams had already lived and grown. The wind moved gently through Athena’s hair. Apollo watched her in silence. “You’re staring again,” she said without looking at him. Apollo smiled. “I’ve been doing that for years.” Athena turned toward him. “And you still haven’t gotten bored?” Apollo shook his head slowly. “Not even for a second.” He paused. “In fact… I think I love you more now than I did back then.” Athena looked surprised. “That’s impossible.” Apollo smiled softly. “Back then I loved the girl who argued with me in philosophy class.” He gently touched her hand. “Now I love the woman who built a life with me.” ⸻ Chapter 34: The Weight of Time Time leaves small marks on everyone. A few grey hairs. A few quiet wrinkles. But when Apollo looked at Athena, he didn’t see time passing. He saw their memories. Late-night walks. Their first small apartment. The moment Hera was born. The first time Hera said “Mama” and “Papa”. Every moment was still alive somewhere inside them. Apollo whispered softly: “Do you ever wish we could go back?” Athena shook her head. “No.” Apollo raised an eyebrow. “Not even a little?” Athena took his hand. “If we went back… we might lose everything we have now.” Apollo smiled. “You’re right.” Athena leaned against his shoulder. “I don’t want to relive the past.” She looked at him gently. “I want to keep growing old with you.” ⸻ Chapter 35: Hera’s First Love Meanwhile, life was changing for Hera as well. One evening she called her parents. Her voice sounded nervous. “Athena?” Apollo whispered jokingly. “I think our daughter is about to confess something.” Athena answered the phone. “Hi sweetheart.” Hera hesitated. “I… met someone.” Apollo immediately sat up straight. “Someone?” Athena gently pushed him away from the phone. “Tell us.” Hera laughed nervously. “He’s kind. He loves books. And he argues with me about philosophy.” Apollo crossed his arms dramatically. “Oh no.” Athena smiled knowingly. “What’s his name?” “Orion.” Apollo sighed. “Of course she falls in love with someone with a mythological name.” Athena laughed softly. “Sounds familiar.” ⸻ Chapter 36: The Parents Remember After the call ended, Apollo and Athena sat quietly for a moment. Apollo looked thoughtful. “So this is how our parents felt.” Athena nodded. “Probably worse.” Apollo sighed. “Do you think she’ll make the same mistakes we did?” Athena smiled gently. “We didn’t make mistakes.” Apollo raised an eyebrow. “We didn’t?” Athena shook her head. “We made choices.” She took his hand again. “And every choice led us here.” Apollo looked at her with warmth in his eyes. “I’d choose you again.” Athena smiled. “I know.” ⸻ Chapter 37: A Promise Under the Stars That night they walked again through the small garden behind their home. The stars above them were bright. Apollo suddenly stopped. “Athena.” She turned toward him. “Yes?” He looked at her the same way he had looked at her years ago under the streetlight after their first date. “There’s something I never said properly.” Athena tilted her head. “What?” Apollo took both her hands. “You changed my life.” Athena laughed softly. “You’re exaggerating.” Apollo shook his head. “No.” His voice became more serious. “You didn’t just become my wife.” “You became my best friend, my courage, and the reason every story I write has hope in it.” Athena felt tears in her eyes. “And you,” she whispered, “taught me something too.” Apollo smiled. “What?” “That love doesn’t weaken a person.” She placed her hand on his heart. “It makes them brave.” They stood there quietly for a long moment. Two people. Two lives. One story that had started with a simple moment at a university door. And even after all those years, their love was still growing.
