Everything Must be Perfect

Lucas POV             Ricky was waiting in my office as soon as we got back to the pack house and we had quickly finalized a plan for him to go meet with Corinthia and her family as my ‘Olive-branch’ as it were. He packed a quick bag just in case he stayed over, it was already evening and about an hour drive one way. I started pacing practically the second his vehicle pulled out. He was supposed to check in every hour, on the hour once he arrived. He had sent a quick text to let me know he was pulling into their drive and that he could see Cory out back sparring with Connor and then nothing since. I was glad to hear she had been training and keeping up her skills, it explained those amazing muscles I had noticed at the bookstore. I was a little concerned at the fact that she would decide to spar with her brother, Connor. I knew how hard he trained when he was still living in the pack house and the son of the alpha. I was sure he had continued and probably intensified his training the last few years. If he wasn’t going easy on her, she was sure to be badly injured.             It was now 8pm, why wasn’t Ricky contacting me? He could at least text. I am his Alpha and I gave him a direct order! Finally, at 8:15 I called him and briefly chewed him out for his insolence before letting him give me an update. I was glad to hear things were going smoothly and that he allowed Corinthia to be the one to tell her family about us being mates. As his future Luna, she deserved respect and he had given it to her but then, why wouldn’t he; he was also her best friend. Now to get everything ready for her return home. “MOM!”             “Yes dear. What do you need?”             “I need to get things prepared for Corinthia to join me. She will need the Luna office decorated to her tastes and her half of our closet to be stocked. I need you to plan a party in her honor and…” I trail off with so many big plans for my Luna.             “Calm down dear. She might wish to decorate her office herself and pick out her own clothes. Scratch that last part actually, if I remember Emily picks most of Cory’s clothes for her. You don’t need to go over the top though, you’re going to overwhelm her and scare her away all over again. All she knows of you is your reputation and that you beat her father in a battle and banished them from everything and everyone they knew.”             “That’s exactly why everything needs to be perfect for her arrival!” I half-shout at her.             “And when will that be dear?” She gives me a questioning smirk.             “I don’t know yet. Ricky says things are going smoothly with her family and they are willing to meet to go over terms for their return to the pack. That meeting will probably be tomorrow sometime.”             “So, you want me to plan a party for her return but you don’t even know when she will be returning?” She raises an eyebrow at me and smirks. She knows that I’m going overboard and it’s amusing her. If she was anyone other than my mother, or mate, right now I would probably tear her apart. I was much too anxious for this kind of snark, even from my mother.             I had been anxiously searching for my mate for four years and I find her in the one family I managed to completely alienate from the pack. A non-allied pack would have been easier to deal with since they would be neutral at least. An allied pack would have been perfect or finding a mate in my own pack. I did run The Great Lakes Pack, the largest pack in the Midwest, after all; there were loads of members I hadn’t officially met yet. We had the best access to secluded woodlands and control over some of the most powerful, and lucrative, businesses. We also boast a large number of members, with over 2,000 wolves in our pack. We have several outposts throughout the Midwest that keep us from all being crammed into one single area and gives us greater spread over our territory.             I was finally going to be a complete Alpha, with a Luna to run my pack. From the sound of it, she was going to be a strong Luna from keeping up with training and helping run a farm. Seeing her lost in a book in that bookstore just a few hours ago, I could only imagine how intelligent she was as well, or how enjoyable her imagination could be. She was lost in a fantasy novel, after all. I just loved the way her lips pursed at certain parts and her breath hitched while she bit her lip at another section. I wanted to bite that lip. I wanted to make her mine forever and mark her so the whole world knew she was MY mate.
