Dawson I was jolted awake by the sound of a scream, jerking upright in bed. I glanced to my right, finding the bed empty. My heart flew into my throat. “Gaia?” I called, still slightly disoriented. Another scream. Close. And, to my sheer terror, undoubtedly my mate. I bolted from the bed, making it out into the hall in less than a second. The smell of blood hit my like a truck and my teeth and claws extended automatically. I dashed towards her open bedroom door, fear jabbing a sharp, breathtaking pain into my chest. No, no, no, no, no… “GAIA!” I slid into her room, taking a moment to process what I was seeing. Firstly, my mate was fine. She stood beside her bed, shaking, sobbing, screaming, but unhurt. I scanned her entire body, tested the scent of blood in the air. Not hers. Relief
