Eliana's POV Alex’s grip slackened slightly as he turned toward the voice. Mrs. Ramirez was charging from across the street, coming out from another neighbor's house, her robe flaring around her ankles. She was barefooted, holding her phone in one hand like a weapon. Her voice, usually warm and gossipy when she waved at me in the mornings, now boomed across the street with a force I’d never heard before. “Mrs. Ramirez—” I started, breathless.
