The great pyre is not in the castle. It was built close to the middle of Solaria for two reasons. The first is that having such a huge fire source so close to the castle was too much of a risk and the second is the extra advantage it had given them in parading the most hideous criminals that had warranted the wretched type of death all the way from the dungeons in the castle through the village and to their waiting fire.
