I should have stayed in Kael’s cave as he ordered. Should have hidden and let him handle Elena. But I had spent five years following orders. Five years of being obedient and invisible. I was done with that. I waited until Kael left, then slipped out behind him, keeping to the shadows. My cracked ribs screamed with every movement, but I ignored them.
