Maeve I stared at him as if he had grown two heads. “Okay, this is your room. Then where will you sleep?” Based on what he had said, I inferred he was proposing I use his room. I noticed an arched doorway, which led into a second room, and beyond that was a balcony. The mist here was incredibly high, rising up to the level of the balcony and undulating like a serpent. Strangely, I felt calm. But this calm was deceptive, to lull me into a false sense of security. “I’ll be sleeping in my room,” he said dryly.
