A Mate After A Pup

Chapter 3

Harper’s POV

    I load all my belongings into my SUV and say goodbye to my apartment. I take one last look. It isn’t anything special. My studio apartment had stainless steel appliances with granite counter tops. The cabinets were dark navy with gold hardware. I had a small island with my sink facing the living area. There was a small, half wall that separated the kitchen from the area I used for my bed. Although it wasn’t much, it was everything I ever needed these past 7 years of my life. I never wanted anything fancy because I knew I would move back to the pack. The only way the pack allowed people to live outside of the pack land was either for special training or if they had officially renounced the pack. 

    I was approved to live outside the pack since I did not meet my mate by the age of 20 and I was going to train to become a doctor. There were special conditions in order to get approved. Some of the special conditions include being unmated, mandatory visitations, remaining on schedule with school and training, and not getting pregnant or impregnating a human. 

    Unfortunately, all the rules were easy for me. I went to every Blood Moon event, ball, gala, wedding, and even the neighboring packs’ celebration with my wolf friends yet I never found my mate. Maybe the Moon Goddess decided that being a single pediatrician was what I was meant to be.

    I take off for the 45 minute drive. *RING RING* “Hey Logan! Are you going to come over to mom and dad’s tonight? I’ll be home in about 45 minutes.”

    “Yeah sis! I wouldn’t miss a chance to come see you! Vera and Isaiah miss you so much.”

    “And you don’t?” I chuckled.

    “Of course I miss you the most. I can’t believe my little sister is a DOCTOR!” He bellows loudly.

    “It isn’t that special since you all are doctors too! But you can now schedule Isaiah’s appointments with me! I already spoke with the head physician at the pack hospital and he is going to let me start working on Monday.”

    "You know you can just call him DAD and not 'head physician'. Why are you working so soon? Do you not want to enjoy a few weeks off?” He groaned.

    “I don’t know how to stay still, I guess.” I giggled with a smile on my face.

    “Well let’s make tonight and the weekend worth it then! See you soon sis.”.

    “Ok, bye Lo!” *CLICK*

    25 minutes pass by and I get to a hidden dirt road. I take a left and drive about 15 minutes in and I am met with a large gate and warriors standing on guard.

    “Frankie! It’s me, Harper!” I am so excited to see my childhood best friend Frankie standing at the gate. I rolled down my window to wave but he was already running to my door. I hop out and am embraced in the biggest hug ever.

    “Harper! We are so happy you are back! You look so good..” he looks me up and down.

    I laugh awkwardly. Frankie is very handsome. He is the typical 6’5”, blonde hair, blue eyes kind of guy. I do notice that since the last time I saw him, he has gained a ton of muscles and looks great in his grey T-shirt.

    “You look great as well! Looks like you’ve been hitting the gym.”

    “I have to! I am the best warrior here. Alpha Cole appointed me as Gamma a few months ago.”

    “Wow, really?! That’s awesome! I am happy for you.”

    “Thank you, now if only I had a mate…” he trails off and looks deeper into my eyes.

    “Uh yeah, don’t we all!” I try to laugh it off. I never noticed but is Frankie hitting on me?

    “Well I am going to meet my family, it was nice seeing you! I will see you around Frankie.” I rush back into my car. Frankie shuts my door and leans into the open driver side window.

    “Mm, we definitely need to catch up soon.” He grins. Oh what the hell! He is hitting on me. This is awkward since we’ve always been best friends.

    I sheepishly smile and roll up my window as he raises his hand to have the gates open. My parents' house is only 5 minutes away from the gate. I am pulling in and I see a huge sign that says “WELCOME BACK DR. NEWTON”. Everyone is running outside as my tires crunch over the gravel in the driveway.

    “My baby is here!” My mom is running and sobbing to my car door. I don't even get a foot on the ground before I'm being smothered with hugs and kisses.

    "Renae, let our daughter get out of her car at least!" My father laughed.

    "I just miss our baby so much! She's so grown. She has joined the family legacy!” It has always been an immense amount of pressure to live up to my parents being doctors. My father, George, is the head physician at the pack hospital and sees all the higher ranking officials. My mom is a family practitioner so she sees everyone for general checkups. Lo is learning my dad’s work so he can take over the pack hospital when he retires.

    “I love that we can keep reusing this sign, maybe we can keep it for Isaiah in the future.” I laugh out loud. Everyone is now around my car giving me hugs and kisses. 

    “Titi Harp, my mom says you will have lollipops all the time now!” I am holding my arms open for little Isaiah to give me a hug. Vera rolls her eyes with a smile at Isaiah.

    I hug him hard. “I will always have a lollipop for you!” and I pull out a cherry lollipop from my back pocket. Since he was able to eat candy, I have always buttered him up with a lollipop.

    “YAY! You were right mommy!” He wiggles out my arms and back to Vera to open the lollipop.

    Everyone is grabbing my belongings and taking them into the house. My room is the only room downstairs so it isn’t a long way thankfully. Once my car is fully unpacked, we all sit in the living room to catch up.

    “Dinner is at 6pm. Will you be staying for dinner Lo?” my mom asks.

    “Yes! We have an announcement as well…” you can see Lo mind linking Vera. Vera beams. “We’re pregnant!” My mom instantly bursts into tears. She will cry about everything. 

    “Oh my goddess, I am going to be a grandma again!” She goes over to hug Vera and rub her bellow.

    “Congrats son! You are a great father.” My dad goes over and hugs Lo.

    “We decided that since Isaiah was going to go to school next month, it was a great time for another pup.” Vera and Lo are looking at each other and glow with pride. They steal a few kisses. I have been so happy to see my brother find his mate. They’ve been together for four years and they still can’t keep their hands off each other. I want that.

    “Well I am going to go walk around the pack and visit with some friends! I know they all miss me. I will be back for dinner though!” I grab my cell and head out the front door.
