POV AVA
I woke up in the morning to the pleasant humming of the birds outside my window. The room had a beautiful view of a tree where the birds resided. My father had returned with the groceries, and my mother had prepared breakfast. They both had to head to their respective jobs, leaving me at home with nothing to do during the month-long summer break before the new school session began.
Deciding to explore the mansion's property, I stepped outside. The mansion was vast, surrounded by a breathtaking garden. The garden's pathway was lined with trees, providing a cool and inviting shade. On one side of the mansion, there was a garage filled with various parked cars.
Curiosity led me to the back of the mansion, where I discovered a soccer ground with a net. As I ventured further to explore the area, a soccer ball came hurtling towards me with incredible speed, hitting my left ear and face, causing me to stumble and fall to the ground. In an attempt to catch myself, I sprained my wrist and bruised my knees.
Two boys, dressed in shorts and drenched in sweat, stood facing me. Their upper bodies were bare, revealing well-toned physiques. One of the boys, with a medium skin tone, approached me and offered his hand to help me up. I found myself captivated by the lighter shade of brown surrounding his mesmerizing eyes. His neck was slender, leading to broad shoulders and a perfectly sculpted chest with noticeable abs.
As he held my hand, he asked, "Are you hurt?" Before I could respond, he added with a dismissive tone, "If you're hurt, it's your own fault for coming in between my shot." He let go of my hand abruptly, causing me to fall again, this time onto my hips. I winced in pain, and a tear escaped my eye.
When I looked up to say something, he turned and walked away, seemingly uninterested in my well-being. Another boy, who had been standing at a distance, came over and squatted before me. He introduced himself as Samuel and expressed concern for my well-being.
"You seem to be new here, Ava," he said kindly.
"Yes, my mom and dad just got a job here," I replied.
Samuel nodded, "I'm familiar with Ezekiel's behavior. He's always a bit rude to everyone. Don't mind him."
After helping me stand up, he smiled, showing off his perfectly white teeth. "So, we'll be seeing each other often then."
With that, Samuel turned and walked away, leaving me with a lingering sense of intrigue. His curly hair and confident demeanor were quite appealing.
I went to wash my hands at a garden tap, where I encountered a maid working. I shared the incident with her, and she warned me about Ezekiel. He was the owner's son and known to be the most wicked person around. He treated others poorly and was generally unpleasant to everyone.
She also told me that Samuel was the son of the second richest person in town. He and Ezekiel had been friends since childhood and usually spent their summers together. However, this year, Ezekiel had a difficult time at school, and his mother grounded him for the entire summer. Samuel occasionally visited Ezekiel, but it seemed like he was getting bored after a while.
As the maid left, she accidentally slipped on the wet ground and fell on her hips, crying out in pain. I rushed to help her up, and my father arrived upon hearing her cries. She requested my assistance in my mother's absence, as she was unable to manage the household chores.
