To learning new things!

As it turns out, Samantha is a fast learner. I watched in awe as she floated easily with her newly acquired wings. She was able to create a boundary spell. A spell that created sparks that rained down. Teleporting from place to place, I was so proud of her. The twins clapped and ‘oooed and awwwed.’ Say I’m proud is understatement. I’ve watched these kids grow up. I still remember when Samantha was brought home. Her curly-q blonde hair, bright green eyes, rosy red cheeks. Same with the twins. Though they’re still young. Same matching gray eyes, brown hair, and pale complexion. I was proud of what all they would become, or accomplish. Something told me, that we wouldn’t see them for a while, after we part ways. Well not something, but Leta. She was anxious about leaving them, but we both knew, it would be better this way. “Come on now, that’s enough practice for this morning, let’s go get some lunch.” Mally clasped her hands together. We followed her back inside. Breakfast in the dining room hadn’t been cleaned up yet, and I noticed a little black fluff over the plate of sausages, or I should say what was left of it. “FINN!” I yelled. I nearly forgot he was here. He was probably starving. “Oh that little guy is yours? I didn’t even see you sneak him in.” Mally laughed heartily. “At least he’s going to eat it.” She pet him between the ears. “What would you all like? How ‘bout some BLTs from the bacon left over at breakfast?” “Sounds awesome!” Faith squeals. The kids were all smiles. ‘Bacon!’ Leta started salivating. We all went into the kitchen and a cutting board floated on to the kitchen counter as well as tomato’s and lettuce to be cut up. A knife floated gracefully and slowly to the cutting board and started cutting up the veggies. “That’s amazing!” Will was watching, entranced as the utensils moved themselves. Bread floated to the toaster, Mayonnaise came out of the fridge and a small butter knife out of a drawer. I don’t ever think I could get used to seeing all of this. But this is my life now. Expect, the unexpected. We ate our BLTs and chatted. “So will you stay one more night? I can clean your clothes that you came in before you leave.” “That would be great, thank you.” I smiled at her. We finished up and I gathered the clothes from our room while the kids sat and watched tv again. I followed Mally into her laundry room. “I’m expecting some more people in tonight, do you want me to wake you all up early so you can get going without being seen?” Mally asked as she put our clothes in the washer. “Sure that should be alright.” “Also,” she closed the lid after putting in the soap, “would you like to use my car?” Drive a car? I never learned. “I don’t know how to drive.” “Well, I can teach you really quick, how about that?” “Alright!” My face lit up. I hugged her again, a long and tight one. “Well, let’s get going. Let’s round up the kids.” ——— It didn’t take long to learn at all. Driving was a breeze. Much easier then I thought. Leta couldn’t stand cars though. ‘We need to get out of this metal death trap as fast as we can.’ Leta sounded irritated. “Samantha, you remember where you’re taking the twins?” Mally asked. “Of course!” Mally looked thoughtful. “I can draw up a map of back roads, so you have less possibility of running into cops. They especially don’t take kindly to supernaturals.” I gripped the steering wheel tighter as we pulled back into the bed and breakfast. I put the car in park, just like Mally had shown me. I turned the car off and pulled the keys out of the ignition as everyone got out. We all walked back in. Everyone seemed tired. “How about I make some dinner? I’ll bring it to your room. Spaghetti sound good?” Mally asked. “Yes please!” The twins said in unison. “Thank you, again. I don’t think I can say it enough.” “Not a problem, after all, I want to make sure you all get there safe, and you bring my apprentice back in one piece.” She winked. We retired back to our room and I switched on the tv, getting comfortable in bed while the kids laid around me. A news report rolled across the screen. I sat up straight when I saw the Ariel footage of the farm. The report said a man’s dead body was found on the farm with a shot gun blast to chest. 4 kids missing. One suspect. Their 16 year old daughter. My school picture flashed onto the screen. I felt every single one of them get rigid beside me. “I’ve got the spaghetti!” Sing songed Mally. But the look on our faces made her get serious. “What’s wrong?” “I’m the suspect.” I whispered. ‘Those people are so stupid.’ Leta hissed. “We ran from where we lived. They abused us. Samantha ran from the house after being locked in the basement. Our foster father went looking for her with the shot gun and he got shot instead. Now I’m being blamed for it.” I felt hot tears well up in my eyes. “Then maybe you shouldn’t stay here tonight.” Mally almost sounded panicked. She came over to me and pulled me into a hug. “Do not blame yourselves, any of you. They’re awful people and I’d say he got what he deserved.” She handed us our food. “Here eat your food first, I’ll pack up the car for you.” She grabbed the bag of clothes and went out of the room. We wolfed down our food quickly, almost making my stomach hurt. “How long of a drive is it Sammi.” I asked. “Almost a full day. The car will get us there much faster.” Mally came back in the room, a cellphone in hand. She handed it to me. “This is my phone I use when I’m not home. I’ll be here. The only number in there is the number to the bed and breakfast. Call me if there are any problems.” I nodded. We all hugged her. “I’ll see you all together one day again.” Her words reassured me. “Oh Finn, I forgot about-“ “No worries, I’ll hold onto him here for you.” “Alright kids, let’s go.” They follow me out to her old Buick. We all get in and put our seatbelts on. Samantha had gotten the directions from Mally and we peeled out of the bed breakfast.
