Alec’s POV
Her eyes were wide with shock at my words. She almost seemed in disbelief. That I would drop anything for her.
Be anything for her.
I may have only just met her, but the love I already felt, would never falter. I remember hearing stories about mates, when I was a child, and seeing how my parents were.
My wolf desperately wanted to hold his mate. He knew her wolf wanted to touch him as well. I stretched my hand out to touch her shoulders.
“How do I know I can trust you?” She asks, looking at me, then narrowing her eyes at my hand. I retracted my hand back.
“You don’t. But I will prove myself to be a trustworthy man. My beta had suggested finding you all, and turning you in. But I can’t do that. I couldn’t do that even before I knew you were mate. I’m tired of how this world is. My parents died to make sure I had a future. I don’t want to let them down. And more importantly, I don’t want them to die in vain, nor lose anymore Pack members.”
Her eyes glistened with tears.
“Your parents sound wonderful.”
“They really were.”
She cleared her throat.
“I feel the bond. I know it’s there. But I don’t want to talk about mates right now, I want to talk about the Blood Brothers.
And there it was. Something I know nothing about.
“I really know nothing about them. Im sorry.”
“It’s alright. More heads will help us find them. I think I have a pretty good idea already of where they are. I think I may have seen one of their buildings. Not many places have basements in California. I found one building in the city, and one of my friends found something in another part of the city.”
She paused.
“The only reason I know of them is through Dagger. I couldn’t hack much from their computer, but one of the last calls made, was here, to California.”
She stood up from the chair, pacing.
“It was an sos. To send out some kind of machine.”
I felt my hands go numb. The machine to nullify abilities. It could make the strongest alpha wolf weak within seconds. You can’t shift, and your strength is gone.
“That, I do know about.”
She looked at me, her eyes narrowed.
“What is it?”
“I don’t know how it works, nor have I ever seen it person, but my fathers beta told me about it, a couple years ago. Let me call him in.”
I mind linked Glen. Within a few moments he was walking in.
“Alpha,” he bowed to me.
He turned to Darian.
“You must be the Demoness?” Glen asked her.
She nodded and stuck out her hand.
“I am. You must be the old beta. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She took his hand in hers.
“Just call me Glen. So you have a few questions?”
“Indeed I do Glen.”
As she was talking, I noticed she had this air to her. A natural born leader. The way should could probably command a whole room. I have to wonder who her parents are. Her father must have been an alpha, and her mother a demon. I was in a trance as she spoke that I hadn’t realized Glen was now speaking to me.
“Alpha? can I use your computer?”
“Oh yes,” I flipped around my computer. He tapped away at my laptop furiously, my father and him had a lot of information stored away. He had uploaded files a while back of the said machine. Mostly pictures.
Darian starred at them. Her eyes focusing, especially her black one, then something caught her eye.
“These are witch’s symbols. I saw them when I was in North Carolina. Granted, they’re not the same as the ones I saw,” she pulled out an old flip phone, “may I?”
“Of course.”
She took a few pictures. And started tapping away furiously on the tiny keypad.
“I’m gonna have a few of my friends look at these photos,”
She slipped her phone back into her pocket.
“Thank you very much Glen.” She turned to me.
“Another question. Do you know of any other wolf packs?” Glen slipped out of my office as she asked me this.
“Yes. More so in Canada. There’s 5 left here in the states.”
“Are they friendly?”
“Yes, we’re all allies.”
She looked thoughtful.
“Can you trust them completely.”
“2 of them, yes.”
“Good, think you can invite them here?.”
“I can try. But coming over state lines is tricky. I will do what I can.”
“Thank you very much Alec.”
“So, Declan told me a bit about the Blood Brother’s. I will send out 5 men to the addresses of the Faeries and vampires, see if they can find anything.”
“I think I may have found one lead so far…”
“But with that machine. I don’t want to put anyone in harms way. Declan showed me how to be skilled even without my abilities. I think this will be easy work, once I incapacite the machine.”
Her words worried me. I know what she wanted to do.
“You’re not going alone.” I simply stated. She glare at me.
“You’re not the boss of-“
“Not up for debate.” I hissed.
She raised an eyebrow at me.
“Oh really?”

Darians POV
Now that, pissed Leta off. She didn’t like being told what to do. But her and Danica liked how we worked. Alone. It’s better that way. I do the most dangerous tasks, without any of them knowing. There’s been nights I’ve taken on 10 people at once.
One thing I learned about demons, is you can’t poison them. Not with anything. Even Wolfsbane doesn’t do anything. Danica just simply dispels it out of my body.
And if you manage to cut me, the blood that trickles out of my wound, can be used as a weapon. The guys in Tennessee and Ohio didn’t see that one coming. Shows how much humans know about demons. BIG eye roll.
“I can take of myself pretty well, I’ll have you know.”
“I said it’s not up for debate.”
“Do we need to fight about it?” I hissed.
I could tell that made Alec irritated.
“Are you really challenging me right now?”
“Are you questioning my abilities? I retorted.
He narrowed his eyes at me.
“Fine, if you can defeat me in hand to hand combat, no powers, I’ll let you go on your own.”
“Deal.”
“As in no demon abilities either.”
“Pretty sure you said no powers, that falls into that same category you know, little puppy.”
I was being cheeky, but I didn’t care. But I definitely struck a nerve calling him puppy.
——
The fight was going to happen on their private beach. Alec and all the members of his pack as well as my friends gathered around the huge sandy pit that created hundred feet back from the shoreline.
Alec was irritated with me, and I couldn’t help but laugh. But he should of known that I wouldn’t agree to his terms of not working alone. I stretched out my muscles as we stood apart from each other.
“I can’t believe you’re fighting your mate. Have you lost your mind?” Justina hissed in my ear.
“No. We’re just working something out. He won’t let me do what I want to do.”
Justina gasped. “Oh girl, you better win. Don’t let him work all over you. I get it now. Beat his ass.”
I giggled at her words.
Alec cleared his throat.
“Darian and I will be fighting today. It’s a fight to settle whether or not she can run things how she wants to, and it’s a fight without any abilities. Can anyone here officiate?” He asked the crowd.
Declan stepped forward.
“I think I’M the most qualified.”
“Alright.” Alec beckoned him into the ring.
“Lady and gent, you know the rules already. And while we’re at it. No weapons.” He narrowed his eyes at me.
I put my hands up, “I don’t have any of my blades with me. I didn’t need them for this.” I state innocently. “Plus, I don’t need to cheat to win.” I narrowed my eyes at Alec. He narrowed his at me. I closed my right eye. Just showing him how serious I am.
Alec and I shook hands for the first time. I felt the electricity run up my arm. I stared intently at him.
‘Keep your s**t together.’ Danica hissed.
‘Don’t let him win.’ Leta agreed.
Declan brought his hand up, then brought it down.
“And begin.”
