Chapter Twenty Six The transgressors stood in front of Carl's desk. Behind them stood the men who had brought them back and others Andrea didn’t recognize. Carl stared. “You tried to escape.” “I told you I would.” “And Margaret and I told you you’d be disciplined.” What can they do to me? Worse than making me a slave? “You’ll go with Burt.” Carl pointed behind her, and Andrea turned. A short, fat man stood with an unlit cigar in his mouth. “You’ll do what he tells you.” “And if I refuse?” “Andrea. You tried and you failed.
