CHAPTER TENLindsey didn’t have much of an appetite, so Marvia suggested a sushi and robata bar on Solano Avenue. They nibbled unidentified morsels. Lindsey tried a jug of hot saki. He’d never had saki before, and the first sip tasted like rubbing alcohol. The second was better, and he wound up liking the stuff. He told Marvia about his dinner with Mother and Gordon Sloane. He didn’t know how she would react to their suggestion of a double wedding. When he sprang the idea she shook her head. “What kind of double wedding? Bart, if we do this, I want it to be just us. I’m sorry. Your mother can be there, of course, if you want her to. But I don’t want a fuss. I’m no blushing bride.
