Chapter 2

"Dangerous Alliances" Ariana’s POV The next morning, the sky was a muted grey, casting a gloomy haze over the Bloodmoon estate. I sat by the window, watching the fog drift through the trees, my mind swirling with the events of the previous night. Caleb’s unexpected visit had left me restless. His presence wasn’t part of my plan, and I didn’t trust him. Something about his sharp eyes and knowing smile unsettled me. But I couldn’t afford to show weakness—not now. A soft knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts. I stood quickly, brushing off the tension that had settled in my muscles. When I opened the door, Caleb stood there again, leaning casually against the frame as if he owned the place. “Morning,” he greeted, his tone too relaxed for my liking. “Alpha Sebastian wants to see you.” I raised an eyebrow but said nothing, stepping past him into the hallway. Caleb fell into step beside me as we made our way down the stone corridors of the estate. The silence between us was thick with unspoken words, and I could feel his gaze flickering toward me every now and then. “So,” he began, his voice low, “you’re really going through with this, huh?” I kept my eyes forward. “I don’t have much of a choice.” “You always have a choice,” Caleb replied, his tone light but laced with something darker. “It’s just a matter of whether you’re ready to face the consequences.” I glanced at him, meeting his dark eyes for a brief moment. There was something behind that gaze, something calculating. “And what consequences do you think I’m not ready for?” He shrugged, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “You’re playing with dangerous people, Ariana. Sebastian, Luca… They’re not like the wolves you’ve dealt with before.” “I know exactly what I’m doing.” “Do you?” Caleb asked, his voice soft but piercing. “Because from where I’m standing, you look like a woman running headfirst into a fire without realising how badly you’re about to get burnt.” I stopped walking, turning to face him fully. “I’m not afraid of getting burnt, Caleb. I’m not here to play it safe.” He studied me for a moment, his smirk fading into something more serious. “Just remember, not everyone in this pack is what they seem.” Before I could respond, we reached Sebastian’s office. Caleb knocked once before pushing the door open and motioning for me to enter. I stepped inside, my heart pounding, unsure of what to expect. Sebastian stood by the large window that overlooked the pack’s territory, his back to me. The room was filled with the scent of old leather and wood smoke, a subtle reminder of the power this place held. When Sebastian finally turned to face me, his expression was as unreadable as ever. “Ariana,” he greeted, his voice low and steady. “We need to discuss your place here.” I nodded, stepping forward. “I’m ready.” Sebastian’s eyes narrowed slightly, studying me. “Are you? Because once you start down this path, there’s no turning back. You’ll be expected to follow my lead, no matter what I ask of you.” His words hung in the air, heavy with implication. I knew what he was asking—my loyalty, my obedience. But I had no choice. I needed him, and more than that, I needed to destroy Luca. “I understand,” I said, my voice firm. Sebastian nodded once, satisfied with my answer. “Good. You’ll be staying here, under my protection. But understand this—there are many in this pack who won’t welcome you. Luca still has loyalists, even here. If you want to survive, you’ll need to be smart.” I met his gaze, refusing to back down. “I can handle it.” “I hope so,” Sebastian replied, his tone dark. “Because if you fail, there won’t be anyone to save you.” Later that day, I found myself walking through the thick woods surrounding the Blood Moon estate. The air was crisp, and the scent of pine filled my lungs, but I couldn’t shake the unease that had settled deep in my chest. Sebastian had made his expectations clear, but there was more at play here than I had anticipated. Caleb’s warning echoed in my mind, and I couldn’t help but wonder what he knew that I didn’t. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of twigs snapping behind me. I spun around, my wolf senses on high alert, but the forest was empty. I frowned, scanning the shadows, but there was no one there. Still, a chill ran down my spine, and I turned back.
