I was in the wrong part of the tunnels, I discovered with dread. I now had to retrace my steps with the guidance of the dim underwater lights. Luckily there was still airspace at the top. “Trent!” I called and pushed against the tarp. It was of no use. I could not hear them underneath, and I was sure they would not hear me either. Sticking to the surface of the water, I swam back into the tunnel I had entered. The sign was still pointed in that direction. That meant I had made the right turn. Why could I not find the exit? Suddenly, the lights went off, plunging me into complete darkness. This wasn’t good. But I needed to stay calm.
