MALIAH'S P.O.V.
The crowd was still in an uproar as voices clashes trying to make scene of Asael's announcement. My legs trembled at what he had announced, and my head swirled with unanswerable questions.
“Luna? A maid?!” someone yelled.
“This is outrageous!” another barked.
“Silence!” Asael's voice boomed, cutting through the noise like a blade.
My heart hammered against my chest as e looked director at me and my breath hinged, he wasn't even making an attempt to hide me
“This is not up for debate. Maliah Bren will be Luna. Disrespect her, and you disrespect me.” I took a step back, but the guards dragged me back to the front with such ease, “Come here, Maliah.” Every eye turned to me and I swallowed the shame that hung at my throat.
I wanted to scream, to freaking vanish, but my feet moved unwillingly, I couldn't defy his orders even if I tried. Even with the gush wind blowing I felt suffocated with every step I took.
Asael took my hand as soon as I was close, and it took everything on me not to pull back as I glared at him with tears in my eyes
“You are mine now,” He whispered
“You’re making a mistake,” I grunt as anger laced every fiber in my bones
“Too late for regrets,” he smirked, “This is happening, whether you like it or not.”
I wanted to kill him, despise him being ten times stronger than me and he could get me killed, but I really didn't care, I wanted to strangle him to death with my hands
“Alpha Asael, this is madness!” an elder finally spoke, stepping forward. It was Elder Gavin, “You cannot elevate a maid, your mistress, no less to the rank of Luna. It will bring disgrace to our pack!” I hated that he described me as his mistress, but I remained quiet.
“Do you doubt my judgment, Gavin?” I raised an eyebrow as he called him by his name and anger flashes in Elder Gavin's eyes.
“I question the wisdom of your choice. A Luna must be respected, and this union…"
“You’re dismissed,” Asael cut him off coldly.
Asael glared at him intensively using his Alpha powers and to my surprise, Elder Gavin bowed and made his way out of the crowd
My stomach flipped as I fought the urge to yell at him for such a reckless decision, but I knew I couldn't. His mind was made up and no one, not even me could sway that insolent mind of his.
******
It's been three days since Asael made his announcement, and I was trapped in a room like a damn prison. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and fought myself not to shatter it to the ground. The white dress clung to me like a chain and I felt like a Lamb being led to slaughter.
“You look beautiful,” I flinched as I turned to the doorway to see Asael look at me as he leaned against the door frame
“You don’t have to do this, you’re destroying everything for me, for the pack, for yourself.” I begged and just stared before he walked to me.
“I don’t care what the pack thinks. You belong to me, Maliah. And today, I’ll make sure everyone knows it.” I clenched my fist.
“You’re forcing me into a life I never wanted!” I yelled at him.
“And you’re rejecting a bond that’s fated,” he shot back, his voice rising. “Do you think I wanted this? To find my mate in a maid? In the woman my pack would least approve of? But the Moon Goddess chose you, and I won’t let you run from it.”
“You think this is love? This is ownership!” I glared at him but he didn't respond.
“It’s time.” He walked away, and I knew better than to sit here and a single tear slipped from my face.
The wedding was the most chaotic thing I've seen. The pack was angry and chose to ignore every eye glaring at me as I tried not to crumble. Asael had an unreadable expression that made my anger boil, but he held my hand in a firm grip that I couldn't even pull away.
“I object!” A relief washed over me as someone interrupted the wedding and something shifted in Asael's eyes that made my heart fly out of my body.
“This marriage is a sham! And I have proof.” Enora's voice echoed in the hall and Asael's jaw tightened.
“Enora, you are no longer part of this pack. Leave now before I have you removed.” He sounded awfully calm for someone who had a death grip on my hand.
“You think you can silence me so easily? Think again, Asael. Because what I have here changes everything.” I watched as she unfolds a paper, “This is a sworn statement from Elder Gavin and several others, detailing how Asael violated the pack’s sacred laws. He not only broke his marriage vows, he forced this woman into a union she never consented to. This is treason against the Moon Goddess herself!"
“Enora…"
“Am I lying?” Enora shots like a mad woman, “Ask your new wife if she wanted this marriage. Ask her if she accepted you willingly.” All eyes turned to me and I felt my chest tightened, “Tell them, Maliah, tell them the truth.”
My mind raced. If I admit the truth Asael will lose his position and whether anyone chooses to believe it or not he's the best Alpha we've ever had but if I lie I might never be free.
“Enough of this. I am the Alpha, and my word is final. This marriage stands, and anyone who challenges it challenges me.” Asael growled.
“You may silence them, Asael, but you can’t silence the truth. You’ve made an enemy of me, and I won’t stop until you’re brought down.” Enora snarls before turning away and Asael glared down at me.
“Don’t even think about siding with her.” A chill went down my spine as I looked into his eyes.
My eyes went back to the crowd and I caught a pair of red eyes staring at us and my breath hinged, but before I could get Asael's attention he was gone, in the blink of an eye he was gone
Who was that?
