Out East the world moved too fast. Instead of trying to slow the rate of speed, most people tended to go with the flow and step up their pace with little regard for the consequences. Five days was too soon to declare the President unfit. Grant Anderson was too ambitious for his own good; too ambitious for the good of the country. Grant had tried to railroad the 25th Amendment through the Cabinet. There was no question about it. Earl Hollings had seen the President on the Portico with his own eyes.
Hollings knew what he had to do. He would slow the process of presidential succession. He would begin by calling his old crony, Layton Rood, Sr. as soon as he finished his ride. He jammed his spur into the haunches of his horse and brought him to a full gallop.
