10 Janet flew to Chicago the following weekend to be alone to think. She planned to visit Cheryl and check on the house. When Layton suggested she stop in and see his parents she made it clear she was not going on a goodwill tour and that she had no intention of even calling them. Janet sought solace on the shores of Lake Michigan. An azure blue sky with a few billowy, cumulus clouds and temperatures in the mid-seventies highlighted an Indian summer October day. The calm lake provided a respite for her from the turmoil of Layton’s irresponsible behavior.
