Donald remained in his room, as the sound of his father's voice wouldn't stop re-echo over and over again in his mind.
He just couldn't get his mind off the fact that his inheritance was at stake if he didn't oblige his parents.
“What then should I do?”
This is the question he kept on brooding on.
Amid his thoughts, a number flashed.
He gazed at his phone and his at the top of his ringing tone.
“Who could this be?” He seemed bothered
He was wrapped up with mixed feelings as the whole situation remained unclear to him.
“This fool can't even do well to return my call. He is just too dumb.” Agnes said as she loudly chewed gum.
She dropped a flash again, as she sat down with her leg crossed.
“I hope his brain will tell him to return this call this time around.” She said laughing in disguise
“Who is this fool that is dropping this annoying flashing at this time of my life?” He shouted in frustration
“If I return this stupid call, it won't be funny at all o.” He said as he took a deep breath
“If not for the fact that I have a solution to this whole thing our parents have put us into, dailing this stinking number is the last thing I will do in my life.” Agnes stuttered as she lost her breath
“Agnes, Agnes, just calm down.” She said gently to herself as she breathed in and out until she was stable.
For the third time, she dialed his number as his phone rang.
“If this person flashes me this time around, the person will have his or herself to blame.” He said to himself as he left his phone to ring.
Donald lost their appetite for everything in his life at that moment. He seemed more confused than he had ever been in his entire life.
“What could have happened? He isn't picking up his call?” She muttered calmly
“I would just drop him a message. A chat will do.” She said to herself as she sent him a direct message
“Hi”
Her message was delivered. She waited for a reply
“This person calling might have something important to pass across to me o,” Donald said to himself as she picked up his phone
He saw a popped-up w******p message
He replied, “Hello”
“This is Agnes.
I have something important to discuss with you and I know it will benefit us and bring us out of this snare our parents have put us into. Let's hook up at the restaurant we joined yesterday at 3 pm. Please, don't keep me seated.”
“Wow. It seems she has something important to say truly.” He said to himself as he lost wondering what it could be.
“Okay. I will be with you shortly. Thank you for reaching out.” He replied
“This big head is replying like a gentleman that he is not.” She said laughing out loud
Agnes went to her parent's room and knocked.
“Who's there?” Her mother asked in expectation as she looked towards the door.
“It's me, mom.” She said excitedly
“My dear, please, come in.” She responded to her and her face was full of surprise as to the reason Agnes' face was wearing excitement
“Mom, Dad” She called smiling
“My angel, talk to me. I love it when you smile for me” Her father answered as he approached her with a hand over her shoulder
“I want to inform you that I have a scheduled meeting with Donald. It's a lunch date today by 3 pm.” She said joyfully
Her parents looked at each other in amusement, trying to decode her words.
“You are joking, right?” Her mother said staring at her with her mouth slightly opened
“Mom, I'm serious. He just called me and I'm glad I'm seeing him as soon as possible.” She said jumping
“Wow. This is an unbelievable news. A very good one at that. I love this.” Her father said very surprised
“Mom, Dad. I'm going to freshen up so I can look attractive and appealing to my man.” She said as she bid them goodbye.
Immediately, Agnes drove out, and Sen. George and his wife went directly to Donald's house to see his parents.
“Darling, something is fishing about Agnes. I don't seem to believe her. And she can't be smarter than us, her parent.” Mrs George said to her husband
“Exactly. I am also not settled. It's glaring she only obliged because of her properties.” he said to her confusingly as he drove ahead
“Yes, I thought as much as well.” She nodded in agreement
“I just hope this new turnout is true and real. This child should make us proud, and that is all we ask of them.” He said in doubt.
Agnes got to the restaurant awaiting Donald's presence.
“Hey, where are you? I'm waiting” She texted him
“I will be with you shortly. Be patient.” He responded
“Okay. Be here as fast as possible.” She texted
“Okay, miss.” He responded
He is still amazed at Agnes' sudden change towards him. Particularly in expectation of what she has to say that she claimed it's going to be of benefit to them.
“I hope this meeting is worth my time.” He said as he drove into the restaurant
Agnes sighted Donald from afar and hissed.
“This thing disgusts me. I just hope we won't break each other's head before leaving here this afternoon.” She said to herself as she headed down.
“Young lady, to what do I owe this meeting?” He asked in amazement
“You could at least greet and apologize for coming late, young man,” She said staring at his eyeballs
“Okay. My bad. I'm sorry” He said calmly
She kept mute.
“I said I'm sorry, young lady.” He said looking forward into her eyes
She bent and murmured, “A fool like you will always be sorry.”
“What? Did you bring me here to insult me to my face” He asked in distaste
“I never mentioned your name. And if you think that word is for you, then it is.” She said glaringly
“Anyways.” She said as she adjusted her gown and flapped her hair to the left side of her face.
“I think I have a solution to this impossible thing our parents are demanding from us.” She said slowly
“Just be fast with your speech; I don't have any time to waste.” He sounded uninterested
“Who has that luxury of time to waste here either? You better be kind with your words. I didn't call you here for you to spit words at me. Okay?” She harshly said to him
Donald took in a deep breath as he looked at Agnes in earnest expectation of what she had to say.
“Okay. You know what! You can leave if you are not comfortable here.” She said as she was almost standing up to carry her bag
“Where do you think you are going? You can't stand me up from my space and now want to leave. Just say whatever you have to say. I'm all ears.”
He said calmly as he was patient to listen to her words, which she quoted would be of benefit to them regarding their parent's flimsy demands of them.
She sat down slowly and continued staring at him.
“I thought of us faking our love for each other, so we can result in having a low-key wedding. Get our inheritance and then divorce.” She said to him
