CHAPTER TWO

1230 Words
Donald is at work when his phone rings. He wasn't expecting any call so he began to guess. “This call can be anybody but I just wish it's not my dad.” “I don't have an appetite for his irrelevant conversations this afternoon 'cause I know the reason he's calling already if it turns out to be him.” He spoke with distaste He paid less attention to the call, but the caller didn't seem like he was giving up anytime soon. He picked up his phone, and it was his dad. “Oh, God!" He exclaimed He tried to catch his breath as he picked up the call. “Hello, Dad” He greeted “Young man, why were you indulging my call?” His Dad asked “Dad, I have a lot of work undone on my desk. I've been busy with a lot of tasks.” He said hoping to end the call so soon “Okay. How about you have lunch with Agnes this afternoon?” His Dad asked “What?” Donald sounded frustratedly surprised “Dad, lunch is not something you impose on two grown adults,” Donald said interestedly “And who says I'm imposing? I'm only bringing up a suggestion. And the best you can do is to appreciate that I'm in your best interest.” His Dad said “Like I said earlier, I'm very busy. I have so many tasks to catch up with. Thanks for the suggestion, sir. It's not appreciated.” He responded “But Dad, you know you don't have to do this. All of this can't be forced. If it's meant to be, it will come in shape naturally." Donald said calmly "Dad, I have to go now. I'll see you later. Thank you." He said as he cut the call. "This boy is playing with his inheritance. He has decided to gamble with his properties, and I hope he wins, if not, he will have himself to blame." His father said to himself "This man is frustrating me. I can't bear this anymore. The only thing I've desired all my life is to find a lady I'm interested in, fall in love with her, build a home with her, and not arrange a woman for me. This will certainly not work.” Donald said to himself He leaves his office to go to a nearby restaurant to have something for lunch. Donald mistakenly parked his car in a way that obstructs Agnes' car from driving out smoothly. He was just overwhelmed with the whole situation that he forgot to park well, and the gateman was not attentive to his coming in to ensure his parking well. Agnes only ordered a table of water and meat pie. She lacked the appetite to eat. She thinks that if she goes out to eat in a restaurant, she will be able to eat, but she can't. She stood up and was ready to go home. Ungetting to her car, she was frustrated by her inability to drive out until the car obstructed her moves. She goes to meet the gateman. “Who's the fool that parked this way?” She asked yelling The gateman began to stammer because he had no idea. “I said, who's the i***t that drove this thing to obstruct my car?” She shouted “Madam, please calm down.” The gateman said Donald walked out with the takeaway pack he ordered and saw the situation on the ground. He walked to her to apologize “I'm so sorry for causing you this inconvenience. It was out of place. Do not be offended.” He said facing the gateman Agnes turned to see who was talking and it was Donald Her head banged. She was very amused and she couldn't believe her eyes “You fool, so you've been stalking me?” She said aggressively to him He was shocked to hear that from someone he'd just met for the first time. He turned to see who she is “Oh, so it's you?” He said to her “And who do you think you are for you to think that I will go as far as stocking you?” He said irritated “You know what? I hate you with everything in me. You are such a piece of dirt.” She said yelling at him “You disgust me, too. I can never imagine ending up with someone like you. For you are mannerless.” “It's a waste of my precious time standing here exchanging words with you, spoilt brat.” He uttered with aggression He entered his car and drove off. Agnes was still in shock at his words. She was pained “So, this he-goat said all of these and went away with it. We will see again.” She said very bittered “Sorry, Madam.” The gateman said to her “Will you get away from my sight before I run you over? You good for nothing, old fool,” She said harshly to him as she drove off. She hissed ceaselessly as she was driving home. The thought of meeting with Donald at the restaurant was shortsighted for her. “If I know that i***t eats there, I wouldn't have gone o.” She said to herself “He's so ugly. His forehead is like that of sunlight. Nothing about him interests me.” “I don't know why my parents won't just let this pass. Can't they see that this is not in any way coming to reality?" “It's so obvious we hate each other. He is not my spec at all.” "What then can I do to convince my mom and dad on this matter?” "It seems nothing. I'll continue saying no till they oblige. They need to see for themselves that this cannot work out.” Donald puts a call through to his mom still in his angry mood “Mom" He called out angrily "Hey, son” “How are you?” She said "Mom, See, I'm not fine." He responded "What's it with you? Just calm down” She said calmly to him “Mom, whatever it is that you and Dad are planning with the George's family about my marital decision cannot and will not work.” He said to her angrily “Son, I need you to listen. I mean, you need to listen well and listen good.” “This decision has been taken decades ago. So, it's not about us. It's about the covenant between us” She said distinctively “Mom, I do not care about the covenant you are talking about. But this arrangement cannot work.” He said to her deadly “Just drive home and let us have this discussion. And please, be very careful while driving.” She said calmly to him “Okay, mom. I'm driving home." He said to her "God, please. Let this be the very last time I will have this discussion with my mom. I pray you go ahead of us in this conversation and make every crooked way straight before us.” “Let this whole covenant thing be canceled in Jesus’ mighty name." He uttered prayers to God in his heart I just hope this settles it. Amen
