DAY AT SCHOOL

Today started off like any normal day. Firstly I couldn’t find any parking so I had to park at the back of the school, then when I crossed the road some i***t almost ran me over with his car screaming at me “watch where you are going.”

As we walked into the school every girl was looking at Andy and I immediately felt jealous and possessive. I took his hand and put it around my waist and I stuck my hand into his back pocket. He looked down at me and smiled whispering, “is someone jealous?”

I looked at him and said, “they are looking at what is mine.” He bent down and stole a kiss making me lose my balance. He caught me just before I hit the ground and laughed at me.

“this is so not funny.” I said and realised that every person in the hallway is staring at me. I straightened up and cleared my throat looking at one specific group of girls. They are the popular girls in school and they change guys like I don’t even change socks. Every week someone new is hanging off their arm. “hey, just ignore them.” Andy said from behind me putting his hands on my shoulders and pushing me forward.

“I forgot to tell you, we need to go dress shopping after school for the dance on Wednesday.” Jessy said which made me groan because I have forgotten all about the dance and now I’ve been reminded.

I looked over at her and said, “you just had to remind me didn’t you?”

“seeing as you and Andy are together now I thought you might as well go together.” Jessy said wiggling her eyebrows at us.

Andy stepped around me and fell to his knee in front of me and said in a voice loud enough for most people to hear, “please will you Anna Lane do me the honor of being my girlfriend and go to the spring dance with me?” I looked at him dumbstrucked blushing like there is no tomorrow. I always thought he would ask me, but I never thought it would be like this and not to mention every girl in this hallway is staring daggers at me.

I looked over at Jessy and she is recording this whole thing.

“what the hell Jess?” I asked trying to grab the phone but she pulled it away.

I looked at Andy and I am certain that I want him. I bent down to his level and kissed him deeply.

When I came up for air I said, “yes I will be your girl and yes I will go to the dance with you.”

He got off the ground and picked me up spinning me around. “I just became the luckiest guy in this school.” He said and put me down without letting go. We stayed there and just stared at each other until the bell rung.

Jessy pulled my arm and said, “come on don’t wanna be late for maths now do we?”

I have maths with Jessy and then I have Science, business, arts and crafts and then I have English and all alone too I won’t see Jessy or Andy until after lunch. All three of us have Gym and History together. I groaned as my class came up and said goodbye.

“ohh look she finally made it.” One of the popular girls said. I just scoffed and went to my seat. Dominique has been after Andy since middle school but he never liked her. now that she is popular and can get every guy she wants with her blond hair, blue eyes and perfect body she thinks she can have Andy.

The period went by painfully slow. I sat and stared out the window most of the time dreaming of the life I want, but my mind keeps drifting to the dream I had and I looked down at my finger. The cut is still there, but it isn’t sore anymore. I need to get some answers, I though and just then the bell rung.

The time flew by and when the bell rung again it was lunch. I jumped out of my chair and practically ran to the door.

MS Lane please stay back for a minute Mr Parks said from behind his desk. I groaned and started thinking about what I could have done wrong. I know my English teacher doesn’t like me much. But what have I done now?

I waited until everyone left and then went to his desk. “did you do your paper?” he asked and I just stared at him.

“what paper sir?” I asked confused.

“the short story about a day you would live over and over.”

I looked at him and then remembered what he is talking about. I took my file out of my bag and handed it to him saying, “yes I’m all done.” He took the file and then put it down looking at me funny. “well you will be the first one to hand it in.” he said and smiled at me showing his crooked yellow teeth. I had to stop myself from shivering when he tried taking my hand. I pulled back and said, “please excuse me.” And I walked out if his class. He is such a creep and I wonder why the school still keeps him as a teacher.

Two arms grabbed me from behind and I had to stop myself from screaming when I heard Andy’s voice. “I missed you.” He said and kissed my cheek. Jessy joined us as we walked into the cafeteria. We got our lunch and made our way to an empty table. as soon as we sat down Dominique and her clan crowded our table nearly pushing Jessy and me to the floor.

“wow Andy you really are buff.” Dominique said as she rubbed her hand over his bicep.

Andy kindly took her hand and removed it from his arm and out it down on the table. “that is where your hands will be if you want to sit here. Andy said and stood up walking around to my side chasing the girl next to me away.

He sat down and said, “Dominique this is my girlfriend.” I looked between him and Dominique with my mouth open. I mentally slapped myself, ‘does he know what he just did?’ I asked myself and I couldn’t help but stare at Dominique’s facial expression. If she hated me before she is ready to kill me now.

She flipped her hair back and stood up, “we’ve met.” She said and if looks could kill I would be dead.

When the last bell rang I was ready to go home and have a make out session with my bed. school just makes me so tired and now I still have dress shopping with Jessy. I wonder if Andy would join us. I thought as I walked out of the school.

Jessy and Andy said they would meet me at the car so I didn’t have to wait for them.

I looked left and right before I crossed the street and there weren’t any cars, then all of a sudden one came out of nowhere and almost ran me over yet again. This time it was me shouting, “you have brakes for a reason buddy.” Now I’m too scared to cross the second road, because it is the second time today a car almost ran me over.

I decided to sit on the grass and wait for Jessy and Andy. I took out my phone opening my search engine. I described the blade as best I could and after three attempts I finally got something that more or less the same. I looked at all the pictured until I found one that looks exactly like the one from my dreams. I clicked on the images and started reading.

I was on my third sentence when Jessy gave me the scare of my life. She almost jumped on me screaming in my ear. She made me throw my phone.

“Jessy!” I screamed at her and crawled to where my phone landed in the road. I turned it over and stared daggers at her. “great my screen is cracked.” I said and looked at it again. The c***k in the screen looks exactly like a “Scythe” the blade I was just reading about.

“don’t worry I will get you a new screen.” Jessy said and just laughed at me.

“Where is Andy?” I asked as we walked to my car.

“he said we should go without him, he’ll meet us at home.” Jessy said and just shrugged her shoulders. I made it to the car without anyone almost running me over.

As we drove to the mall Jessy couldn’t stop talking about Andrew coming back today.

“it sucks that he is in a different school.” She complained and I felt a bit sorry for her. he only comes to visit her like twice a month if he can. He goes to a private school in the city and we are stuck in this small town.

An hour later I pulled into the mall’s parking lot and jumped when someone knocked on my window. When I looked at the person he was pointing towards a sign saying “reserved” I threw my hands up and said, “who the hell reserves a parking space in a mall?”

I drove another floor up seeing as there is no parking on the lower floor and finally parked at the far end. Jessy and I got out and started walking to the lift. Halfway there I tripped over stupid rock and almost banged my head on the sidewalk. Jessy helped me up and we just laughed it off.

I swear today is not my day I think to myself as I got into the lift going down to the first floor which is where Jessy will replace my screen.

We did my phone and took the escalator to the second floor. Now get this, my shoe lace got stuck in between the steps causing me to go into a panic. I’ve seen final destination so my heart started racing and I could feel a panic attack coming on. I tapped Jessy and showed her my dilemma. “take your shoe off and lets pull it out.” Jessy said and kept watching the top of the stairs. I took my shoe off and we started pulling at it. We are three steps from the top and the lace is still stuck. Jessy swatted my hand away and just pulled. She finally got the shoe loose and handed it to me. “what is the matter with you today Anna” it’s like accidents are knocking on your door today.” I looked at her and I am really shaken up. I took my shoes off and decided to walk on my socks but that thought died when I felt how slippery the floor is so I took my socks and shoes off going barefoot.

Jessy looked at me and just shook her head.

We finally made it to the dress store without me having more accidents. The sales lady was kind enough to give me a bag to put my shoes in, but not before looking at me funny. Jessy walked right to the cocktail dresses and started looking through them.

She held up multiple dressed and finally caught sight of a black dress lined with gold lace and a silver pattern around the chest area. She held it up to me and wiggled her eyebrows.

“that would look beautiful on you.” I said and she walked off to the dressing room. I stayed looking around for something that catches my eye.

“I have just the dress for you.” The sales lady said leading me towards the back of the store.

I saw her looking through dresses until she pulled one out handing it to me.

My breath hitched and I could stop staring at the dress. It is a blood red cocktail dress but with a tail and the chest area is white with a black outline. “this is beautiful.” I said and I truly meant it. I have never seen a dress quite like this. “it comes with these.” The lady said and handed me a pair of red gorgeous stilettoes. I’m not one for wearing heels, but this is too beautiful to say no to.

“I’ll take it.” I said and saw her smile grow.

“excellent, please follow me.” I did just that not being able to take my eyes off the dress.

I handed her the dress and couldn’t wait for Jessy to see it.

When she handed me the packet I realised I haven’t paid yet. I took out my wallet and handed her my card but she shook her head and said, “it’s already paid for.”

I looked at her questioningly and all she said was, “a man came in showed me a picture of you and selected this dress and the shoes oh and he left a card.” She said and handed me the card. I flipped it open and read, “hope you like the gift. I know you will look beautiful.”

There is no name and no signature I turned the card around and there is nothing on the back.

“do you remember what the guy looked like?” I asked feeling half uncomfortable accepting this from someone I don’t even know.

“he was tall and very muscular, he had these green eyes that can stare right through your soul and he had dark hair. He looked Italian, but when he spoke he was English.” The woman said and I don’t recall ever meeting such a person or even seeing someone as she described. Well whoever he is, he does have great taste.

Jessy came to the counter and paid for her dress.

“so what dress did you get?” she asked looking into the packet.

“you will have to wait and see.” I told her moving the bag to my other hand.

We grabbed something to eat and then made out way back to the car. Jessy literally held my hand saying “I will not let go until we are in the safety of your car.” And true to her word she didn’t let go until I was in the car. The drive home nearly had us killed.

Halfway home on a curvy road next to the woods a deer ran into the road and stopped dead a few feet from the car. I swerved around it and lost control of the car for a second swerving in the road like a drunken person. I finally stopped the car and my heart was beating a hundred miles per hour. I looked over at Jessy to make sure she is okay, but she was as white as a sheet. “I am never driving with you again.” She said and got out of the car walking to my side and opening the door. “get out I’m driving.” She said and unbuckled my seatbelt for me.

We changed places and sat for a while trying to calm down. “I don’t know what is going on with you Anna, but it’s like you are cursed or something, First at school then at the mall and now this. Who have you pissed off?” Jessy asked me and didn’t bother waiting for my reply. She started the car and we drove home. When we got home Andy wasn’t there yet for which I was glad. “Jess it wasn’t my fault. That deer came out of nowhere.” I said as she started walking up the stairs.

“I know Anna, but take everything in consideration and you will see the pattern.” Jessy said and looked at me. “maybe I’m just having a bad day. Those happen you know.” I said trying to lighten the mood, but I guess she really did have a fright.

“from now on I will drive and I will wrap you up in bubble wrap if I have to.” Jessy said and I could hear the tease in her voice.
