Anna POV
I woke up with a huge smile on my face and excitement bubbling over. Its Friday morning and we will leave soon, Just my mom and me, going away to Hawaii for a much needed break for the both of us.
I already spoke to Jessy and Andy telling them that I will be going away with my mom for a while and that I will do my school work when I come back. My mom phoned the school and they agreed that I can hand in all my work at once instead of weekly.
I threw the covers back and stretched my one arm and leg not even daring to stretch the broken parts of me.
My door opened and my mom stuck her head in, “good morning honey. Get ready we leave in an hour.” My mom said and closed the door again. I got up and made my way to the bathroom, I did my business and took a quick bath. I groaned most of the time when I moved wrong or stretched too far causing me to get a cramp in my ribs. After what feels like forever I was finally done and getting out the bath looks harder than it does usually. By the third failed attempt I yelled for my mother and waited. “Anna?” I heard her call on the other side of the bathroom door.
“mom I need help.” I said frustrated.
My mom came in holding a towel and helped me out of the bath. She wrapped me up and handed me my crutch. I brushed my teeth and went into my room to get dressed and ready for the day.
I don’t feel like wearing long things so I took out a strapless white and grey mini dress and a pair of black spandex to wear underneath. When I was done dressing I called my mom and she did my hair for me and took my bags.
“you ready?” she asked as soon as I made it to the kitchen. ‘no eating breakfast then.’ I thought as I nodded my head.
My mom already did everything. she cleaned the fridge out and left it standing open. She switched the lights off only leaving the outside ones on. The curtains are drawn and it looks so dark inside the house.
I made my way to the car and got in. I waited for my mother who is locking up and giving a spare key to the older couple staying next to us for if something happens then they can get in. my mom trusts them they have been living here their whole lives and they are the friendliest people I have ever met.
I watched as my mom jogged over and got in. “let’s go.” She said and starts the car.
The drive was quiet most of the time except for my mom who tries to make small talk, but me being me talking on an empty stomach is not my style. “mom, I’m hungry.” I said and gave her my best puppy dog eyes.
She looked at me and laughed. “I know.” She said and pulled up to a KFC. My face lit up and I immediately knew what I wanted. As we stopped by the drive through window ready to order I told my mom everything I wanted which left her staring at me wide eyed and the girl on the other side of the window just stared.
“were are you putting everything you eat?” my mom asked and just shook her head.
I looked at my mom and just smiled. For a tiny girl I can really eat a lot and the amazing thing is I never seen to pick up much weight and what I do pick up I lose within a week anyway so eating and me we are best buddies.
My mom stopped at the gas station to fill the car and I started eating not being able to wait until we stop. My mom doesn’t allow eating in the car, but she made an exception for me. I enjoyed my food so much that I had to eat over the packet for the way I was messing. When my mom finally stopped so that she could eat she chased me out too saying I can eat outside against the can and not in the car. I just laughed and swung my legs out of the car leaning forward as I eat. I do not feel like getting out.
An hour later and we were back on the road. I was looking out of the window at all the passing cars and trees. My eyes grew heavy and I closed them next thing I knew I was sleeping.
“Anna... Anna honey…”
I felt someone shaking me lightly and I groaned stretching my good arm hitting the roof of the car. I opened my eyes and stared into my mother’s smiling face.
“come we will sleep here tonight and continue driving tomorrow.” My mother said and I asked, “what time is it?” realising it’s dark outside.
She looked at her watch and said, “it’s just past eleven.” I yawned and opened my door waiting for my mom to come and help me.
We made our way into the hotel and it is huge. The floor has black and white tiles with a low roof, the reception desk was stretching from the one wall to the other and there were four women standing there ready to help. I was looking around in awe and didn’t see the chair in front of me, but I definitely felt it when I bumped my leg.
I groaned in pain and a guy came over to help me. I assured him and my mother that I’m fine and it was just a bump and moved on.
My mother got us a room and we went up. Our bags are here with us seeing that my mother didn’t want help. Our room is on the 5th floor room 511 and the elevator is very slow.
I really have to use the bathroom I thought and tried thinking of something else, anything else. My mind drifted and I realised I haven’t once thought about Andy or touched my phone. I scratched in my small purse and got out my phone. I unlocked the screen and saw I have about a hundred messages from Jessy and Andy. I read the first message from Andy and it said, “hope you are still safe and that you have a great time. if you see any cute guys tell them you are already taken.”
I let out a sigh and put the phone back in my purse. I don’t feel up to talking to him just yet.
“you okay honey?” my mother asked me and I just nodded my head.
The lift finally stopped and my bladder screamed at me. I tried walking faster than I actually can and my leg started to pain, but I didn’t care I just need a bathroom urgently.
“slow down honey you’re ganna fall.” Came my mom’s voice from behind me.
“mom I have to use the bathroom.” I said sounding impatient.
Finally I said as I came out of the bathroom and staring at the room. It’s spacious with two single beds and the window is as big as the walls stretching from the ceiling to the floor.
And it’s white everything is white. In a normal household this kind of room will never be found, let alone even thought of.
I took the bed closest to the door and my mom the one by the window. I walked closer to the window and rest my hand against it looking down. I feel like a small kid everything looks so beautiful from up here. You can see almost everything.
“Anna, what are you doing?” my mother asked me shock evident on her face.
“I’m looking at the city.” I said in a duh tone.
“I… I thought you are afraid of heights.” My mother said.
“I should be, but I’m not.” I said and stare out in wonder.
After talking and laughing and more eating we finally said goodnight and went to sleep.
The next morning I woke up around seven and saw my mom already up and showered.
“good morning mom.” I said and stretched myself.
“good morning honey.” My mother said and looked at me. from her expression I could tell that something is wrong.
“mom are you okay?” I asked sitting up.
She walked over to me and sat down on the bed, “who is Damien?” she asked and I gasped. ‘please don’t tell I spoke in my sleep.’ I pleaded softly.
“it’s the guy who sent the flowers.” I said and shrugged my shoulders.
My mother looked at me and said, “well honey I’m not judging you, but I think he is a bit more than just that because you were talking about him the whole night.” My mother said and I just looked at her. “mom I don’t even know him.” I said honestly.
My mother held her hands up and said, “okay, okay. I will drop it.” she got up from the bed and kissed the top of my head.
After I took a bath I met my mother outside the bedroom door ready to leave again. Finally we will reach Hawaii today. I thought as we made our way to the elevator.
We gave back the key and made our way out to the car. My mother hasn’t said anything again about Damien or the talking.
We drove the rest of the way in silence and the four hours went by fast. The sea came into view and it looked so peaceful and quiet. I took a deep breath and welcomed the salty air into my lungs. I looked at my mother and she was just smiling at me.
After about thirty minutes we stopped outside the hotel my mother had booked and I gasped. It’s so close to the beach and the pools and everything. I thought as I opened my door.
I swung my leg out of the car and heard a male asking, “you need some help?” I wanted to say no, but then I just had to look up and stare into the bluest of eyes. I smiled and took his outstretched hand. “thank you.” I said and smiled.
“Anna you coming?” my mother asked and I saw her wiggling her brows at me. I shook my head and closed my door.
I looked at the crutch and groaned. I can’t wait to get rid of this thing. I thought as I made my way to my mother. “see you soon Anna.” The guy said and I smiled then said, “don’t hold your breath.”
‘no, no, no, no.’ I thought as I started looking around. There is only one person responsible for my mouth not having a filter. I scanned every person and every car not caring that my mother and the guy is staring at me like I’m crazy.
“what are you looking for?” my mother asked now standing beside me.
“I will tell you as soon as I find him.”
“him?” my mother said confused and just then my eyes landed on the tall and very handsome Damien. I just stared at him open mouthed like, how is he even here? How did he know? I thought to myself as he made his way over.
I turned around and started making my way into the lobby of the hotel.
“Anna, who was that?” my mother asked walking beside me.
I thought about lying and then I just said, “that was Damien. The guy I’ve been dreaming about.” I said and heard my mother gasp.
“that’s him?” she asked shocked. I nodded my head and looked at her.
“how did you know he was even here? I mean you were still talking to the other boy and then you started looking around like you lost something.” My mother said and waited for an answer. I have no idea how to explain this to her so I just said, “I had this feeling and I can’t explain it. it’s like a pull I will know he’s near even if were in between thousands of people.” I said truthfully and saw my mother smiling. She will never understand. I thought and looked down.
He didn’t even have to say anything for me to know he is here because his smell surrounded me like a blanket, a very comfortable blanket.
My mother poked my arm and pointed behind me. I gave a sigh and turned around looking into his captivating green eyes.
