WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Damien POV

“why did you choose her?” I yelled at Ashton, my dream walker in frustration.

“sir you asked for new blood.” Ash said bowing his head.

“I didn’t ask for stubborn ones Ash.” I said my anger bubbling to the service.

“I thought you could do with a bit of a challenge sir, seeing that you haven’t had one in over a thousand years.” Ash said and I stopped pacing around. I walked up to him and stopped a few inches from his face. “and why do you think I need a challenge?” I asked with a raised brow.

“sit you changed when Aria died, you became less friendly and more reckless and to prove my point you interfered with human matters and revealed yourself to a human.”

I stood there thinking if he was anyone else I would have ripped his head off a long time ago. “he died, so no harm was done.” I said looking at Ash as if silently daring him to say something else.

“should I choose someone else sir?” Ash asked and for the first time I really felt like strangling Ash. “did I request another one?” I asked folding my arms across my chest glaring at Ash. “I am curious though, why her?” I asked watching as the wheels starts turning in his head. “she has so much innocents in her yet so much pain behind her eyes and something about her juts stood out from everyone else. Her will is what got her trough her dream, but her heart is of the purest I have ever come across.” Ash said and smiled like he just won something. I saw something different in her when I first saw her and I haven’t seen that kind of will power in a very long time and it makes me curious as to know what her abilities would be when she eventually joins me.

“what do you suggest?” I asked Ash. I can’t touch her while she is still human and I cannot harm her either.

“well we could get a seer and she could help or we could just wait it out.” Ash said which caused me to glare at him.

“Ash, just get out and do something useful.” I said and dismissed him.

never in my very long life will I associate myself with a seer, they are misleading and if you can’t pay their price they will tell you whatever C**p comes to their minds. I’ve had a run in with a seer once and she caused more damage than good she is the reason Aria died that day. If I just never went to see that seer and did what my gut told me to do Aria would still be here and Anna could be free to live a normal live.

Living in the supernatural world comes with its own set of rules and the number one rule will always be the same in every realm, the human realm as well. “the balance must be kept. You can’t save a life and not expect a life not to be taken away.” the balance is what keeps the world from falling apart or getting overpopulated.

Like in the human world the supernatural world has a creator, our creator is just a Goddess and she too has angels we just call them “guardians” they keep the peace and look over everyone. Then there is us, we are the reapers. We collect the souls of those who died or are dying and lead them to the crossroads where they will choose their own path according to how they lived their lives, if the soul has become so stained that it cannot be claimed by either heaven or hell we are permitted to cut them down and dispose of the soul. That is to prevent the soul from causing havoc in the realms. A tainted soul cannot be tamed or controlled so they become part of the spirits, like every creature you get good as in pure and bad as in stained. The stained souls are mischievous and driven to cause as much chaos as possible. Now it became our job to make sure these souls doesn’t get far.

I wish I could touch her and feel what she feels to experience a skin as soft looking as hers beneath my fingers. ‘what are you doing to me?’ I asked myself staring out of the window looking at the forest. I don’t live in a cave, not do I live under the earth. I live in a house at the far side of the woods where no one can stumble across us by accident. No one knows where the reapers comes from just that they are there lurking in the shadows waiting. Some creatures went as far as to create stories about us to scare their kids into listening.

As I stand there my body begins to tingle and my beast comes forth. Time for work I thought as I go through the change and a cloud of smoke appears around me.

Anna POV

“mom I said I’m fine.” I said frustrated.

“Anna just let me help you.” My mom said persisting on helping me up from the floor. Yes the floor. I got light headed for a second and went to sit on the bed only to miss it completely and landed on the floor. Luckily I right leg cannot bed or I would have broken it again from the way I landed. “mom just give me a minute.” I said and I know I’m being rude and I don’t mean to, but no one can possibly understand my frustration. I barely make it to the beach and I’m tired. I cannot go into the water, I cannot walk around I literally cannot do anything.

“Anna Lane don’t get mouthy with me and let me help you.” My mother said and I closed my eyes. Why is this happening to me? I asked myself as I let my mother help me up and sat me down on the bed.

I felt the bed dip beside me and my mother pulled me closer so my head could rest on her shoulder. “I know this is frustrating baby I see you struggle every day and I wish I could take it away.” my mother said rubbing my back. “mom why is this happening to me?” I asked knowing that she wouldn’t be able to give me an answer, but I silently hope she can.

“I don’t know baby, I am just happy that you are alive, maybe a bit bruised but I would take that anytime if it means that I get to have you alive.” My mother said and for the first time I caught the hidden emotion behind her words.

We sat like that for a while until body started to pain from the way I was leaning into my mother. I pulled away and smiled, “your date went really well I take it.” I said and for the first time in a very long time I saw my mother blush.

“it went that well did it?” I asked in a teasing voice wiggling my brows which caused my mom to blush even more.

“okay and this conversation is over.” My mother said and got up from the bed. “ohh mom come on. At least tell me if you are seeing him again.” I called just as she closed the bathroom door.

The door opened and she stuck her head out, “as a matter of fact I am.” She said and closed the door again.

“you go mom.” I said softly and reached over for my phone. I don’t know what is going on but Jessy has been acting funny and Andy started speaking to me every day. I looked at my phone and I have a message from Andy and nothing from Jessy so I decided to leave her a message.

“I don’t know what is going on Jess, but whatever it is I hope we can get through it because the silent treatment you are giving me is not making anything better, instead it’s making it a lot worse. If you don’t want to be friends anymore just say so.”

I read the message over and over and just hit send. I don’t care anymore I thought and put the phone down.

It’s been a week since we got here and my mother booked a vacation for three weeks.

I exhaled loudly and fell backwards on the bed. as if I just remembered I looked down at my arm cast and smiled. At least this thing is coming off today and I can get two crutches instead of one.

“mom.” I called and waited.

“yes Anna.” She said as she came out of the bathroom.

“my arms cast is coming off today.” I said and smiled brightly.

My mother slapped her forehead and looked at me with a guilty expression. “honey I completely forgot.” My mother said and my excitement died.

“can we do it tomorrow?” she asked looking at me with a sad expression.

“sure mom.” I said not really wanting to wait but there is nothing I can do about it now is there?”

When my mother left I waited a few minutes until I was sure she is gone and then I left. I will go to the hospital myself.

I got to the lobby and asked the lady to get a taxi for me to take me to the hospital.

I went to wait outside and saw Damien again. I groaned out loud and I wish he can just leave me alone.

“going somewhere?” he asked standing beside me.

“what do you care?” I asked. I gave up trying to control my mouth around him.

“you haven’t lost you sassiness I see.” He said and the taxy pulled up. I made my way to the taxi and got in. “please take me to the nearest hospital.” I said to the driver and before he could pull away the back door opened and Damien got in. “what are you doing?” I asked him looking at him shocked.

“I’m coming with.” He said and flashed me his million dollar smile. I sighed in defeat and slumped back in my seat.

Damien tried making small talk, but I brushed him off or shut him down. after about ten minutes we arrived at the hospital. I paid the driver and got out.

Making my way into the building with Damien right beside me I went up to the reception desk. “hi I need to have the arm cast remove can you please tell me which way to go?” I spoke to the lady who was smiling brightly, but not at me.

I looked at Damien and scoffed. “excuse me?” I said as politely as I can.

The lady looked at me and said, I can wait here someone will come get me. I turned around and realised that every woman with eyes was staring at Damien and I had this urge to say something. I don’t like the way they are looking at him.

‘wait what?’ what the hell am I thinking?

“you okay?” Damien asked looking at me. “fine.” I said and sat down.

A blond nurse came up to us and she is the first woman who isn’t gawking at Damien instead she concentrates on me. “you can follow me.” she said and smiled at me. I got up just as Damien asked, “can I come with?” the nurse looked at him and said, “sure why not.” and she started walking. Okay I like this nurse I thought as I laughed silently. She is the first one who doesn’t seem to notice Damien.

“okay you can take a seat and I will be with you in a second.” The nurse said whose name is Emily.

“she’s nice.” I said smirking at Damien who is staring after her. something inside me didn’t like the way he was staring at her it almost made me angry.

When she came back she had a bowl of hot water with her and some towels. She took the sling off and got to work on the cast.

“this is the first time I see a cast that hasn’t been signed or drawn on.” Emily said and looked at me. I smiled and shrugged my shoulders.

“if I may ask what did you do?” I didn’t find her asking offensive or anything she was s friendly and easy to talk to that I felt comfortable. “I was hit by a car a while back.” I said and her smile fell.

“I’m so sorry.” She said.

“don’t be. It happened and I’m still here.” I said with a smile on my face looking over at Damien who is looking at me through narrowed eyes.

When we were done and the cast was off, she did a few exercises with me and we took X-rays and my arm is completely healed. She did warn me to be careful for about a week or so and gave some pain tablets and she gave me a second crutch.

I smiled brightly and said thank you and we left.

When I put weight on my arm it felt strange almost like my arm isn’t part of my body and I didn’t look like part of my body. The skin was too white and wrinkled.

We made our way out and I decided to walk around for a bit seeing that I have new found freedom and I can move around easier.

“where are you going?” Damien asked and followed me.

“I’m hungry and I’m tired of hotel food.” I said and searched for a coffee shop or something.

“well then let’s go eat.” Damien said and walked beside me.

I stopped and stared at him. “what do you want from me Damien?” I asked him looking straight into his eyes. I waited for a few seconds and he looked seriously in thought. He came closer to me and lowered his voice into a whisper, “I want you Anna.” He said and traced his thumb over my cheek.

“I’m not dying for you Damien I have a life here and I’m happy with my life.” I said and pulled back from him.

“I didn’t ask you to die you have signed your fate the minute you cut yourself.” Damien said and my eyes went wide. I took a step back and looked at him. “how did you know?” I ask and realized he went quiet.

“it doesn’t matter how I know, I just know.” He said and I could see he is hiding something, a lot actually.
