After being silent for the longest minutes of my life, Jeff went to wrap the body in a blanket while the rest of us dug a small hole in the ground with our hands. It took us a long time, but we all managed to make a shallow hole to put the body in. Then we covered it with earth and when we noticed that it was becoming a small mountain, we used rocks from the surrounding area and the branches we had found to try to give it a better appearance and with any luck, no scavenger animal would eat it.
Night fell and so did the temperature. We all crouched around the small pile of firewood as Allan and Ellen tried to keep it burning without much success.
