And Samuel said to Saul, "You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you."

1 Samuel 13:13‭-‬14 ESV

It was just a regular day Jonathan thought to himself, they would just wait for Samuel to give an offering to the Lord and then they will battle with the Philistines. Nothing new since his father became king it has been their duty and responsibility to protect the people and the land that the Lord has given them. Out of nowhere in his peripheral vision he saw his father starting the offering without Samuel and his eyes went wide as he went to the side of his father with panic in his heart. "Papa! What are you doing? I'm sure you know that this is not the right thing to do?" But his father simply looked at him and said "The people are leaving! Can you not see? This is humiliating!" And Jonathan was looking among the crowd if he could find Samuel. But it was all finished when Samuel came his father have finished the offering and he has his shoulder slumped showing how disappointed he was in his father at this time. Samuel came up to Saul and told him how his throne will not be established because of his disobedience and like nothing happened his father and him went their way. Jonathan's internal prayer was "Lord forgive my father for he was truly foolish by not honoring you help him see the error of his ways." He ran to Samuel "wait!" Samuel stopped where he was going "i'm sorry" Jonathan whispered but knew that it was all for nothing and Samuel looked back "Is the reason for your effort because you believe that you will be the next king in line to Saul?" Jonathan paused at that and said "Whatever God place me in I will bring glory to Him." Samuel simply smiled at that and left.
