The soft hum of the city filled the silence between them, stretching like an invisible thread neither dared to pull too tightly. Bella walked beside Alex, her fingers brushing against his, testing the waters of familiarity that had once been second nature. The weight of their past clung to them like the chill of the autumn air, ever-present, ever-reminding. "I don’t know how to do this," Bella admitted softly, her breath misting in the cool night. "How do we move forward when there’s so much behind us?" Alex exhaled, tilting his head toward her as they reached a quiet corner of the park. "Maybe we don’t have to forget," he said. "Maybe we just have to find a way to live with it. Together." She searched his face, looking for cracks in his resolve, for hesitation in his voice. But there was none. Just the quiet determination of a man who had fought too hard to lose again. "I want to believe that," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But what if we break each other again?" His fingers curled around hers, gentle but firm. "Then we mend. As many times as it takes." The sincerity in his words unraveled something inside her, something she had kept guarded for too long. She squeezed his hand back, allowing the warmth to seep in, allowing herself to hope. The past had shaped them, scarred them, but standing there—together—Bella realized that maybe love wasn’t about erasing mistakes. Maybe it was about learning how to hold each other despite them.
