The girls were not with me, so the impulse to turn around and ask whoever was closest to me if they had heard anything, suddenly died. I held my breath, knowing that he would not just stop, he was going to speak further.
He didn't say anything and he did not hang up the call. That was my cue to ask what the rumour was.
"What did you hear about us? Anything scandalous?" I asked him.
He sighed. “Can we talk when I get back home? I am currently in the office and I can't be on a long phone call right now, sweetie."
I dropped the call, but I didn't expect to have my hands trembling as much as it was. It didn't make sense that he had heard whatever the rumour was.
