This wasn’t a good idea and it did not take too long to backfire. I really didn’t know how it happened but the next minute, I found myself, laying flat on the floor. The sword was out of my hands and not only was Malakai hovering over me, the sword I had initially held was now on my throat and any slight movement could bring about my end.

My heart thumped loudly and almost audibly.

“How dare you.... What effrontery! How dare you come into my room and .....” He drifted off and shook his head before getting the sword off my neck and a sigh escaped my lips.

“Aziza....”

That was the most awkward position I had ever imagined getting with him and his breath on my face made me so uncomfortable as it was beginning to get... a little hot....

“I am sorry, I am just desperate for help. I have heard so much about you and the power you exude. I know you are the only one who can help me. That way, we can satisfy each other’s desires. I have no use in this world hence I know I have to use all I can to get revenge. I know Bernhard would never accept me but he deserves to know the truth about his father’s killer.

Who knows if whoever killed him too is after his life?’” I pleaded with him. “Please, help me...”

He let out a sigh and shook his head.

“Get out of my room right now.”

“But you.....”

“I do not want to repeat myself. Get the hell out of my room else I would feed your carcass to the vultures by morning.” He ordered.

Confused and dumbfounded, I stepped out of the room. I couldn’t return to the room where I was locked in neither did I have a place to spend the night. What was I going to do?

“Hi.” A maiden walked out of nowhere and I almost jumped out of my skin. I didn’t expect to see anyone at that time of the night.

“I am sorry if I startled you. I ..... I think you should spend the night with us in the maidens’ quarters.” I arched my brows in confusion and she let out a comforting smile.

“I understand how you feel but I was amongst the maids who saw you when you were brought in here weeks ago and I know you are not a bad person neither do we mean any harm. Since this is your first night outside of the dungeon, you should come spend the night with us “She spoke. “You should also have something to eat.”

“I am not hungry.” I lied but my stomach growled, as though opposing my lies. I was utterly embarrassed and she chuckled. i had not eaten ever since i came and i sometimes felt so weak and fragile. i had rejected every meal i was given, hoping it would change his mind on my freedom but he seemed too stubborn to consider.

“My name is Gwen....” She stretched her hands.

“My name is Maude.....” I responded and shook her hands but I was quick to withdraw it as her hands on mine sent an electric jolt down my spine. What the hell was that?

“Are you.... are you okay?” She probed. I faked a smile and nodded.

“Come with me.” She spoke but just as I was about to leave, a guard walked up to me.

“the Lycan Lord seeks to see you immediately. He wants you in his chambers now.”

I turned to look at the maid but surprisingly, there was.... no one by my side.

“Do not keep the Alpha waiting. He does not like to be kept waiting.” He ordered and turned to leave. I was however shocked and I held the guard, my voice tinged with anxiety. “Did you... did you see the maid walk away? She was just here a minute ago.” I probed, searching for her. It was quite impossible for her to walk away that fast.

“What maiden? You must be delusional.” He spoke and turned to guide me. I felt a chill creep down my spine. How could he not have seen her? She had been right there. How could he possibly not have seen any maiden? Was I imagining things? I knew for a fact that I had seen the maiden. I had in fact, shook her and .... what just happened?

I halted on the spot, not sure of what was going on. I could not carry on like nothing had happened. I knew I had to do something. I had to find her. Just then, I felt someone’s grip etched to my fingers and my heart skipped a beat.

I turned to look at who it was and my breath was caught mid throat. For a second, I was in denial, struggling to believe what was going on.

“Bernhard, what are you....”

“Let’s elope and start a new life. As lovers.” He revealed.
