“Where’s the Heart?” asked Galenn. Shay turned, saw the suspicion on his face, and scanned the room. Nothing. He doubted it had been placed in storage, but he motioned for Galenn to follow him to check. They found no Heart in storage, in the engine room, even in the bathroom. “They took it,” said Galenn. “They took it with them.” Shay was inclined to agree with that conclusion, given there were no other options where it had gone, but it didn’t make sense. “Why? To keep it away from you? I’m with you.” “Jerran doesn’t trust you,” said Galenn. “Do the others?” “Kell and Andy and I have been doing this nearly a decade together. We trust each other, or we’d be dead.” Shay was annoyed, but he felt a creeping sort of dread. Something about this was not right. Galenn swore under his breath.
