Four: Wildfire and Nebula

Finn's POV The school was buzzing, not from academic excitement, but from the fallout of a new student breaking the quarterback's nose. My fingers fidgeted around the strings of my hoodie, it seems no matter how hidden I tried to make myself, I still found myself at the centre of the stories. "Finn, gosh, that was so epic, I mean Hunter screamed so loud I thought the walls were going to crumble," Lyra crackled, her eyes glimmering in excitement. "I heard he is going to need facial reconstructive surgery," a girl whispered to her friend. The exciting news spread like wildfires around here, and for the first time in a long while the beloved hunter, the quarterback was the hit of it. And this only meant one thing, I was going to pay, for every humiliation and laughter, and Hunter was going to strike back harder. "I mean, Hunter had it coming, I am just angry it took this long," Lyra continued. I wanted to match her excitement, it's not every day you get you see your bully beaten. "Why?" I asked, airing out the big question that had been stuck in my head for a while. Lyra's gaze turned to me, her face in confusion, "Finn, you are doing it again, what do you mean why?" " I mean, why would they decide to help me?" I asked in a low tone. " By they, I am assuming you mean the vampires," she asked. I nodded my head in reply, feeling my shoulders tense at the thought of being indebted to them. " There are a plethora of reasons, maybe because they know it is the right thing to do," she retorted, looking at me like she wanted to smack some self-worth into me. "But I never asked for a saviour, I don't need help, especially from them," I whined. I sounded ungrateful, but the fact still stands, this action has done nothing but put me in a more sticky situation with Hunter. "Hunter is going to be more brutal than before," my voice cracked, my fears showing their colours. Lyra's face sobered up instantly, the truth couldn't be denied, this act of kindness was as useless as a teardrop in a sea. "I guess it's a good thing you have a knight in shiny armour," Lyra grinned after a moment of silence. "Need I remind you, that the so-called knight is not a friend?" I hissed, suddenly feeling bewildered at her utterance. "Maybe, there's something different, Finn," she sighed, linking her arm with mine as she led us towards our last class of the day. Lyra greeted and chatted with almost everyone, her face shining bright with laughter as they exchanged compliments. With my nonexistent social life, it meant I was the awkward one, leaning by the wall waiting. I had gotten used to the fact that I wasn't going to be voted most popular in school, and with that, I spent time in the library getting ahead of my peers. "See you later," Lyra waved to the chirpy school president. I had zoned out of their conversation, keeping my head down as I quietly counted the seconds. With no other distractions, we successfully made it to class, "sometimes I wonder why we have to take this class," Lyra groaned. " You can always drop out," I mocked, laughing at the shocked look on her face. "Excuse me, I think I might have dropped my best friend somewhere, have you seen him," she scoffed, her eyes in amusement. The presence of the teacher meant our banter was interrupted. The class dragged on, and my mind retreated to the fact that a vampire had stood up for me, a werewolf. I knew vampires to only be killers, destroyers but a saviour, that seemed far-fetched and yet again it was real. "Finn, ice cream after school?" Lyra's voice called out to me, I scanned around the class surprised at the fact that class had ended. I tried to hide my disappointment, "Uhm I can't make it for ice cream, dad needs me home early today sorry," I lied, getting home late yesterday had officially sealed up my social calendar for the week. "Oh," Lyra said, her disappointed look made me feel guilty, but if I needed to be bruise-free, a little lie wouldn't hurt. "You owe me a cart full of ice cream, Finn Darragh," she shouted, getting lost in the throng of students who crowded the hallway. I chuckled at her antics, Lyra couldn't be tamed, sometimes I wished I was as free as her. I kept my head down, walking the stoney road, which had become a familiar path home, away from the bubbling laughter and voices of my peers. Walking the familiar path home, away from the bustling school, I kept my head down. Suddenly, I crashed into a solid wall, arms flailing to break my fall. “Easy there," a smooth voice said, strong arms pulling me into a hard chest. "Sorry," I squeaked, pulling out of the embrace, my cheeks flushed at the interaction. My eyes lifted from the ground, and I was met with the deepest blue eyes. "Sorry," I repeated, and judging from the lopsided grin, it was obvious he was used to this reaction from people. "No problem, smalls, you should really pay attention to your surroundings," he said in a jovial tone. I shifted my gaze to the tall figure beside him, his violet-black eyes shone with the allure of nebula, I was stuck in a hypnotic trance. His eyes glanced over my frame with a bored look, the darkness in his eyes was beautiful. "if you are done checking us out can you move," a voice hissed, my eyes widened, glancing at the figure behind the two handsome Greek gods. I took a step back, feeling suddenly uncomfortable at her harsh tone. My nose wriggled as I took in their scents, 'blood-suckers' I thought to myself, feeling disgusted at how I had admired them. "Move," she growled, her eyes glimmering red as she revealed her true nature, my feet stumbled feeling the force of her shoulder as she brushed past me, the sound of her heel clinking loudly on the walkway "Sorry," I said again, walking away from them. My throat clogged, and my eyes blurred in tears, I stood with vampires and admired their beauty. But in my sadness and self-afflicted misery, I couldn't shake off the image of his eyes. He was going to be trouble, and I knew better than to be around vampires. ' I just have to avoid them' I muttered to myself.
