Chapter 8
Zara
I woke up as the alarm beeped off. Rubbing my eyes from sleep I attempted to leave the bed but my worn-out body protested. These days the business in the club is flourishing, and more customers are coming in, mostly the rich folks. Moreover, Tom has been on edge since the day of the fake fire and Zeno’s escape.
It has been full two weeks since Zeno escaped the strip club. Tom has been up and down investigating the matter. From what I have heard he has nothing tangible, all he has is a theory that Zeno slept with one of the security guards and tricked him into helping him escape.
By luck I have not become one of Tom’s suspects, it would have been really painful if it was me. Only I was and still am Zeno’s close friend among the girls. Tom hates liars and two-timing people. The fact that I have been working for him for many years would have made matters worse for me. The way Tom helped me keep my daughter, Ruby despite not knowing her father and not having the right place to consider her home. The strip club is never a good place to raise a child.
I took a short quick shower, got dressed fast, and put on my make-up really fast, I did everything like I was being chased by something scary. I have made it a point that if I arrive at the club’s main hall on time, I cannot risk having any sort of attention. Belinda is climbing her way up the club’s social ladder, she is crushing anyone who comes in her way and course problems for anyone who is not careful enough around her.
I was still working behind the counter when Tom and his guards came in and asked me to follow them to the boss’s office. I cannot help but dread going there. The results of the investigation of the fake fire and Zeno’s escape have not been concluded. No one has been held responsible for the two offenses.
Arriving at Tom’s office door, I stand still to take a few deep breaths. I have to calm down if I have to succeed in walking free from my crimes. “Come in dear Zara,” Shouts Tom’s horrible gruffly aged voice. How I hate hearing this monster’s voice.
Coming in I see Belinda standing behind Tom with her hand messaging him on his shoulders down to his back. Tom raised his head, and pointed at the chair on the other side of the table, signaling me to take a seat. I took a seat as instructed, not forgetting to act relaxed. Taking a seat I lean on the seat, folding my legs and putting my hands on an armrest.
“Such a beautiful woman, what a pity she is disloyal,” said Tom looking at me with a sarcastic pout on his ugly face. As if on cue, Belinda laughed. Praising her new man. This b***h! If the government could permit me to kill someone it would be Belinda.
This is no time to get worked out, I told myself I will play it by ear and this is what I will be doing now. I stay quiet and look at Tom with an expecting gaze. I am waiting for him to talk straight to me, I cannot answer when he is talking in riddles.
Bang!!! Echoed the table as Tom’s hand got in contact with it. That took me by surprise, and I found myself on my feet ready to run for the exit.
“Sit, you b***h, I gave you two weeks to come clean!” Tom yelled while standing up so our faces were almost on the same level.
I couldn’t look him in the eye anymore, mostly because of the sharp shooting words he kept omitting.
He went on and on about how I betrayed him after he trusted me so much. How he helps me keep Ruby despite that meaning a loss in his business. Keeping Ruby meant I had to take maternity leave.
He started crying when he tried to explain the reason behind keeping Zeno here. The reason that got him so scared is when he thinks of Zeno being nowhere to be seen.
He did a lot and even begged me to help him find Zeno as soon as he managed to get his act together.
So much work but it didn’t pay.
I ended up being dragged out and lead into the dungeons. While walking to the dungeons my mind kept repeating Tom's statements. I wonder why he wants Zeno so much. It must be something serious.
Zeno is not the first p********e to escape the club. With Zeno, it is the first time Tom invested so much into finding a wh**e.
Reaching the dungeons the guards pushed me hard, which cuts off my train of thought and placed me back to reality as my bottoms hit the cold, hard concrete floor.
The chains rang and the lock clicked. I deep sigh left my lips, I thought I was finally left in peace, but no. Tom appeared and disturbed my short-lived peaceful atmosphere.
“I will make sure that you suffer up until you give up on hiding the information you know.” Those were his words before he disappeared upstairs.
Stupid Tom you sure don’t know me that well.
