Chapter 3
Zeno
Hearing a strange beeping sound my peaceful sleep got disturbed. Stirring in my sleep I was tempted to open my eyes but they felt too heavy, the mere act of trying to open them felt like lifting up a whole palette of cement. I feel seriously ill, with the thick smell of disinfectant not making it any better when it suddenly makes me feel nauseous.
What happened to me that made me feel unwell? Trying to recall the incidents of yesterday seems really confusing. I remember escaping the club, being caught before crossing the borderline and being dragged back toward Tom’s territory. Ahhh, now I remember, there was a fight. Wait what happened after I got hit?
Remembering that I got hit on my head got me shocked that I quickly opened my eyes, and tried to jump off the bed to head for the bathroom. The plan was to inspect the injuries sustained in the fight. Before I even manage to sit up straight I felt sharp shooting pain at the back of my left hand. For once after opening my eyes, I gave myself time to observe my surroundings.
I am in a room that looks like the hospital ward. This discovery worries me because this room may still be on the club’s premises. I have been to the club’s hospital before, a couple of times. When one of the clients thought using lubricant reduces friction resulting in reduced pleasure. When I accidentally put more salt in the stew and got reported it to Belinda who punished me by dipping the hand I used to cook in the boiling pot of stew. The scalding of that day lasted for a full two weeks.
I have a huge number of hospital stays that could make the story be told the whole day. “Oh! You are awake, how are you feeling?” I lifted my head to find a good-looking petite blond lady smiling at me. She looks so happy, I can’t believe someone can be this happy this early in the morning. How do I know it’s the morning? Because I just woke up.
“I am fine,” I tell her feeling embarrassed that I am not as excited as she is. The lady proceed to tell me that I am in the hospital in D city and that she is the head nurse assigned by the doctor to look after me.
According to the tale told by the nurse, I was found by the head doctor injured laying on the side of the road. Being the team of doctors they didn’t leave me there, they brought me back to the hospital.
One thing in her tale confused me, she kept telling me about her senior, the head doctor who told her to look after me. The guy sounded well respected and kind. Anyways I have no time to ponder on that, I have to make plans to leave the hospital before to find me. From the stories I heard from the nurse, Tom’s men lost the fight which gives me another problem. Now I owe a stranger a favour, the favour they may come anytime to collect. What will be the end of me if he is also the club owner like Tom? I cannot afford to escape one Tom only to land in the hands of the other.
“Now that we have cleared all the confusion and you feel safe, please tell me your name so that I can fill in the hospital forms and leave you to rest,” muttered the nurse with a pleading gaze. This is a little I could do for her after she went through all that explaining.
After filling in all my fake details in the form she tidied the place, removing the container she used to give me water when she first came in and found me awake. I followed her around up until she came close to inject me with the medication she claimed was meant to numb my pain.
Only when I felt myself slowly drifting off to sleep did I realize that she tricked me. I tried to quickly stand up before the medication took full swing, but she stopped me. She softly patted my cheeks and murmured, “Rest Zeno, you are still to realize how lucky you are to have my senior doting on you the way he does.”
I heard her fading voice but before I could even get the chance to question her statement I was already fast asleep, I will have to put the question on my inquiry list, and I will surely ask her when I wake up. That is if I wake up and still find myself too weak to escape this place. Sleep takes me and stops all my worries, making me enjoy the peace it brings.
